Notable actor Simu Liu portrayed the role of Shang-Chi in the MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Finding fame and stardom along the way, Liu also had the chance to work alongside Michelle Yeoh in the 2021 movie.

With the sequel of the MCU movie announced, Simu Liu stated that he’s quite excited to return to the beloved franchise. The Barbie actor also jokingly admitted that the MCU would be lucky if they had enough money to hire Michelle Yeoh for the sequel after the actress won an Oscar recently.

Simu Liu Jokes That The MCU Cannot Afford Michelle Yeoh

With the sequel of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings confirmed, Simu Liu is going to find himself getting busy again at work. The actor was recently seen portraying the role of Ken in Greta Gerwig’s masterpiece Barbie and fans loved his role.

Now, donning the red of Shang-Chi once more, the actor has confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is indeed in the works. Since the 2021 movie had Michelle Yeoh in a prominent role, it is naturally a good option for her to reprise the role in the subsequent sequel. Well, Simu Liu thinks that too but he’s also worried that the MCU may not be able to afford Yeoh for the movie!

In an interview with Collider, the actor talked about the sequel and how Michelle Yeoh is in the seventh heaven after starring in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

“Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.”

He further continued,

“That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything,”

Although the details haven’t been confirmed yet, Simu Liu shared that he has some idea of what the sequel is going to be about.

In an interview with ComicBook, the actor talked about what the sequel would contain and how the iconic ten rings shown in the movie. Stating that they are a good starting point for the sequel, Liu is hopeful for a sequel.

“I think just what Shaun decides to do with all this newfound power, you know? It kind of consumed his father, consumed Wenwu. I’m curious as to how someone much younger, much more inexperienced, would fare against the rings.”

Well, Michelle Yeoh found fame by starring in the 2021 movie and then Everything Everywhere All at Once which won her an Oscar. As for Shang-Chi 2, the movie is expected to be released sometime between 2026 and 2027 as Simu Liu had stated that the movie will be released between the two Avengers films.
