The Hunger Games, which takes place in a dystopian future, explores questions of power, inequality, and the resiliency of the human spirit. Katniss Everdeen, the series’ main character, becomes a representation of resistance. She offers her services as a tribute to protect her younger sister, Prim, earning the nickname “Girl on Fire” for her charisma and tenacity. Katniss is a prime example of the fortitude and resourcefulness required to endure in Panem’s harsh world.
Katniss Everdeen was portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence in each of the first four installments of Hunger Games. And now, while speaking about the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, director Francis Lawerence claimed that Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen was almost “as*xual” in comparison to the main character in the upcoming movie.
Hunger Games Prequel Director Says Rachel Zegler is Completely Different from Jennifer Lawrence
The anticipation for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes coming release among fans of the Hunger Games series is palpable. Even if Jennifer Lawrence might not be playing Katniss Everdeen once more, director Francis Lawrence and a talented ensemble are prepared to revive Suzanne Collins’ vision.
According to director Francis Lawrence, Lucy Gray Baird as played by Rachel Zegler is the “anti-Katniss” in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes prequel to The Hunger Games.
In an interview with Empire, Lawrence admits that Lucy is not Katniss and wonders whether audiences will want to watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes without their cherished archer.
“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor. She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say [she was] asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite. She wears her s*xuality on her sleeve, [and] she really is a performer.”
Fans of the series will notice a slight change in Rachel Zegler’s Lucy from Jennifer Lawerance’s “quiet and stoic” survivor.
