Often known for his method acting skills, The Dark Knight actor claimed to have a difficult time while filming Thor: Love and Thunder for a specific reason. Finding himself in the strange situation of being rather intimidated, Bale faced a tough time with his MCU co-star.
Despite being a veteran star, Christian Bale had a rather difficult experience of filming with Natalie Portman. Apparently, the actress was initially intimidated by Bale, which led her to later intimidate the actor. Thus, irrespective of being thoroughly impressed with each other’s talent and work ethic, Bale and Portman initially struggled to work together.
Christian Bale Intimidated Natalie Portman In Knight of Cups
The Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale has reprised several big-budget roles alongside infamous Hollywood actresses, but it seems like he had a weird experience with Natalie Portman. Initially coming together to appear in the 2015 movie Knight of Cups, the duo failed to kick start their relationship on the right foot.
Apparently, the two didn’t really hit it off well, as Natalie Portman was always on edge with Bale. Further, the actress was always on high alert and too cautious, even though the movie was almost experimental. That’s when Portman told People in 2016, how she felt intimidated by the Oscar winner.
“Christian would do surprising things all the time. It’s fun to watch – and sometimes scary, like when he’s like diving off a dock into the ocean when you don’t expect it in the middle of a scene.”
Discussing how her co-star’s boldness and carefree attitude on set shocked her, Natalie Portman called her experience filming Knight of Cups pretty unusual, but fun. She later concluded by praising Bale for keeping “everything feeling very alive and spontaneous” on set, which led to a fun working experience.
Christian Bale Had A Tough Time Filming Thor With Portman
After working together in the 2015 movie Knight of Cups, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale further returned together onscreen, for their MCU movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. Although the duo returned to impress the audience, fans were rather shocked to see them together, especially after they both admitted to not really liking their previous collaboration.
However, despite giving it a try, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman again found each other pretty intimidating. Nonetheless, this time when the actress found herself not at ease with Bale, she evidently intimidated the actor in return. Giving back the same experience she had on Knight of Cups, Portman created a tough time for Bale.
“She was buff and every time I had any scene with her, she was angry, and she was focused, and she had a hell of a presence, and I was bloody intimidated by her,” Bale told Access Hollywood
When the cameras started rolling the two overcame their intimidation and ended up having lots of fun. Thus, eventually, Portman and Bale managed to connect through the camaraderie of laughing, which brought them together as they filmed Thor: Love And Thunder.
