Tom Cruise has always been a charismatic personality who had quite a relationship with talk show host, Oprah Winfrey when he appeared on her show in 2005. Their interaction became the meme for the Internet which continues to stay prevalent to date. However, the duo had been a part of another incident that happened during the Los Angeles pre-release screening of his film, Interview With The Vampire.
Oprah Winfrey is Not a Fan of Tom Cruise’s Interview With the Vampire
The talk show Queen, Oprah Winfrey walked out of an LA pre-release screening only 10 minutes in of Tom Cruise’s 1994 film, Interview With The Vampire. Being of the gothic horror genre, it was unable to suit her tastes who stormed out as soon as she watched the rat scene.
Film director, Neil Jordan commented on her departure at the film premiere stating,
”I have one thing to say to Oprah, She should have stayed.”
Years later, she described having “an abysmal reaction to it! It felt dark and oppressive to me.”
At the time, she flew to California to especially interview the action star regarding the film but hadn’t seen it beforehand. She called Cruise’s publicist, Pat Kingsley confessing that she was unable to watch the film just two hours before the interview. The Mission: Impossible actor urged her to say what she wanted. In her talk show, she addressed stating,
“I believe there are forces of light and darkness in the world, and I don’t want to be a contributor to the forces of darkness.”
The actor was not surprised as he responded that the movie was not for everyone. The duo shared yet another moment together when Cruise’s couch incident happened in 2005.

The Jerry Maguire star back in 2005 declared his love for his then-girlfriend and now ex-wife, Katie Holmes on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He confessed his feeling on national television by jumping onto her couch in overexcitement which became an Internet joke. It was dubbed the couchgate incident.
He jumped on Oprah’s couch before Winfrey said, “He’s gone. He’s gone. The boy is gone.” Everyone felt that the actor lost his mind but he was more in love! As for what happened after his national confession, the duo got together, welcomed their first child, Suri in 2006, and tied the knot the same year. Though, their happy marital life came to an end in 2012.
As for his Interview with the Vampire, the film grossed $224 million worldwide. It is now available on HBO Max.
