After Daniel Craig hung his tuxedo, Charlize Theron became Chris Hemsworth’s top choice to play the next James Bond. The war for the iconic 007 role continues as potential candidates like Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy fight hard to land the role. But again, Chris Hemsworth’s advice about Mad Max: Fury’s Imperator Furiosa certainly needs consideration.
Charlize Theron is Physically Capable Of Playing James Bond
While most Bond Girls from the $7.5 billion franchise felt that only a male James Bond would offer justice to the iconic 007 role, Chris Hemsworth felt otherwise. In a video for W Magazine, Hemsworth declared that the Charlize Theron is the perfect next choice to order a martini shaken not stirred.
Chris Hemsworth said:
“I’ve made the comment that Charlize Theron should be the next Bond because she scares the hell out of me. And I think she could beat the s**t out of me and most villains out there.
She embodies every ounce of strength and nobility and dignity and integrity that that character should have. She’s smart as hell. She’s physically able.”
The Thor actor’s gracious words come from experience. Hemsworth has first-hand knowledge of the South African actress’ fighting capabilities as the two co-starred in Snow White and the Huntsman and its sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Charlize Theron is also known for her cult-favorite spy thriller, Atomic Blonde.
The Future Of A Female James Bond In The $7.8 Billion Franchise
When Denise Richards, who played Pierce Brosnan‘s Bond Girl in the 1999 Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, expressed her desire to see a male Bond, owning to the book franchise’s character, the statement did offend a lot of action heroines.
Previously, Barbara Broccoli, the heiress of the James Bond film, also confirmed that James Bond will never be a woman. But again, with potential contenders like, Lashana Lynch and Chris Hemsworth’s personal favorite, Charlize Theron, the narrative certainly deserves to change.
Cinematically, Bond has been a huge influence on the spy genre since the release of Dr. No in 1962. Since then, twenty-five films have been released, with No Time To Die (2021) being the last, wherein Daniel Craig played James Bond for the fifth time.
As for the iconic role, if Jodie Whittaker can become the first woman to play Dr. Who, these action heroines certainly deserve a chance to play the world’s greatest spy. Other top contenders in the race for the next James Bond are Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.
Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die can be rented or purchased on Amazon Instant Video.
