Having portrayed genetically enhanced superhumans in the early 2000s series Dark Angel, both Jessica Alba and Jensen Ackles have since achieved ongoing success in Hollywood. Surprisingly, despite receiving positive reviews from fellow cast members, one might have assumed they shared a harmonious working relationship. However, as detailed in this article, that wasn’t the case.
However, as Jensen Ackles revealed, he and Alba were far from friendly during their time on Dark Angel, and he has provided insights into why the Sin City actor appeared unhappy about his inclusion in the cast.
Jensen Ackles Thought Jessica Alba Wasn’t Happy In Her Relationship
During a conversation on the Inside of You podcast, Jensen Ackles speculated that Jessica Alba’s relationship with their Dark Angel co-star, Michael Weatherly, might have contributed to her tense demeanor during that period.
“She was under an immense amount of pressure on that show. She was young, she was in a relationship that was rocky and causing some undue stress,” he said.
At the tender age of 18, Alba began a relationship with Weatherly, who was 30 at the time. In a 2005 interview with Cosmopolitan, she candidly shared that she lost her virginity to the “NCIS” star, an experience that led her to pledge against dating other actors.
According to Ackles, he and Alba found solace in each other’s company during challenging times. “My grandfather died while I was shooting and she literally just walked into my trailer and held me for half an hour,” he reminisced.
He also recounted an incident where Alba had invited him over to her rental home when Weatherly was away, expressing that the place gave her an uneasy feeling. “Looking back, I shake my head. Like, did I miss something there?” said Ackles. The definitive answer to that question remains elusive.
Jessica Alba And Jensen Ackles Weren’t Always Friends
When Jensen Ackles became part of the Dark Angel cast for its second season, he hadn’t yet gained the prominence he would later achieve with his portrayal of Dean Winchester on Supernatural. Back then, his recognition primarily came from his role as Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives, and it appears that Alba wasn’t particularly impressed by his soap opera background.
Speaking on the Inside of You podcast in 2022, Ackles didn’t mince words, sharing, “She was horrible.” He went on to express to host Michael Rosenbaum that he sensed Alba perceived him as merely a network-mandated addition for aesthetic appeal on the show, with her clear dissatisfaction regarding his involvement barely concealed. Ackles did note that his relationship with Alba has significantly improved over time.
