In August 2022, Only Murders in the Building wrapped up its second season and it was well-received by the fans. With season 3 in full swing, one of the show’s latest stars, Meryl Streep, was very concerned about her future in the series but the creators refused to tell her anything.
John Hoffman, who co-created the series with Steve Martin, is often praised for his remarkable work. He once revealed that they follow strict policies on the sets to avoid any leaks. In order to prepare the audience for surprises, the creators share very little about the future of the story, even with the cast members.
Meryl Streep was worried about her future in the series
Throughout the season, John Hoffman, co-creator of Only Murders in the Building, didn’t tell actress Meryl Streep anything about her character in season 3. In an interview with Deadline, Hoffman said,
“Thought out the season, we keep the scripts pretty tight, even with our main cast. I loved watching Meryl be attuned to that and come to that in some way throughout Season 3. She kept on wondering, ‘Am I going to die? Am I going to be the murderer?’ She had to know what was coming up next, it was funny.”
This is often done to prevent any leaks that would ruin the suspense created in the show. Many big film studios, including Marvel, also follow this policy. The show also features some iconic Hollywood stars like Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Aaron Dominguez, Amy Ryan, Cara Delevingne, and Michael Cyril Creighton.
The season 3 of Only Murders in the Building aired on Hulu last week
Several new celebrities joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building for its third season, including Jesse Williams, Ashley Park, and Paul Rudd. A lot of anticipation was created around Paul Rudd’s character in the show. In an interview with TVLine, Hoffman talked about Rudd’s character,
“The hope is that he doesn’t get some huge thing that takes him away [from us], but I’m pretty sure we’re in good shape. Our victims play major parts in the season, so we’re really excited to have him be a part of it.”
Only Murders in the Building season 3 premiered on Tuesday, August 8 on Hulu. There will be ten episodes in total and fans will get a new episode every Tuesday.
