Fans have witnessed a number of seasoned characters leave Marvel Studios’ costumed universe over the last few years. As a result, the franchise’s weight has been assumed by actors like Florence Pugh, who represents the next generation of heroes.
As everyone is aware Little Women star Florence Pugh will take over as Black Widow from Scarlett Johansson as she potentially leads her own superhero team in the future. With the torch being passed onto Pugh, Johansson finally talked about what she feels about her successor since the duo had earlier starred together in the movie Black Widow.
Scarlett Johansson really believes in Florence Pugh
Scarlett Johansson recalled the moment during the making of Black Widow when she recognized Florence Pugh was destined to be a star in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
Black Widow required some particularly high-flying stunt work for Pugh to make her acting debut as Yelena Belova, and according to Johansson, it was while the two of them were dangling hundreds of feet in the air that Pugh’s star power came to light. According to her, after the director yelled “action”, Pugh unbothered by the situation just nonchalantly talked about the recent dates she had been on.
“Two seconds later, we were just connected to each other, hanging on by this thread for life, I was like, this person is just absolutely…she just has it. She’s so keyed in. It’s an emotional availability. It’s a really rare quality, and it’s the star quality she has.”
Johansson did not just stop there, she went on to lay out other qualities of Pugh, which according to her, makes Pugh the perfect superhero for her generation.
Scarlett Johansson believes Florence Pugh represents her generation in an iconic way
The Black Widow seemed to have a great time while shooting the Marvel movie since it helped them get to know each other better. After the movie, it looks like Johansson has no doubts when it comes Pugh’s ability to be the perfect superhero. Not only that, but Johansson believed Pugh has even outskilled her given the actor’s age.
“Why I think she represents her generation in such an iconic way is that she really is in her own skin. She’s incredibly grounded, but she’s also just so self-assured,”
She added,
“I was not self-possessed in that same way when I was in my early to mid-20s. I still was growing up in the industry in that time when you had to be really pandering in order to be accepted. And she doesn’t have any of that at all. She’s unapologetically herself.”
It was difficult to watch Scarlett Johansson formally leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe after more than ten years of service to the series. She might someday return in some capacity, but for the time being, it appears like she has left.
Fans will instead get to see Florence Pugh, one of the most promising young actors now working in Hollywood, in place of Scarlett Johansson.
