Zack Snyder really elevated Jason Momoa’s career by casting him as Aquaman. He was great as Khal Drogo, but that only lasted one season. But he shot to extreme stardom with the DCEU, and now people super get excited to watch his films. That’s because he is a force to reckon with, and he really applies himself to every role he takes on. It is a great time to be a Momoa fan because he is attached to multiple projects already. So, here’s a list of all 6 upcoming movies of Jason Momoa, along with one TV show:
Slumberland
Netflix will start things off for the Hawaiian actor in the first half of 2022. Last year, he starred in Sweet Girl and people responded pretty well to the film. But this year, things are going to be huge as Slumberland is a high-budget fantasy film directed by Francis Lawrence. Here, Momoa would appear alongside Kyle Chandler, Chris O’Dowd, and young actress Marlow Barkley. She plays Nema, a young girl who goes searching for her missing father in the mystical dreamland called Slumberland. Accompanying her on the adventure is the half-man/half-monster creature called Flip, who is played by Momoa.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
The Jason Momoa movie that people are really excited to see this year is none other than the Aquaman sequel. Everyone loved the action-adventure outing that James Wan delivered back in 2018. It became the biggest DC movie ever at the box office. So, great things are expected this time around as well. Arthur, who is now the King of Atlantis, will don a cool new black suit and come across a new underwater Kingdom. Oh, and Patrick Wilson is returning as Orm alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta and Amber Heard’s Mera among others. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theatres on December 16.
Fast & Furious 10
Fans of this high-octane franchise have got to be excited because the F10 team has officially welcomed Momoa via a social media post captioned, “The Fast Fam keeps getting bigger.” Whether he plays the big bad villain remains to be seen. But he surely can’t be another long-lost brother of Dominic Toretto. Dwayne Johnson’s absence would have left a void, so it’s good that a badass like Momoa has been added to bolster a squad that already includes Vin Diesel, John Cena, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, and the rest of the Fast family. F10 arrives on May 10, 2023.
See Season 3
Before F10, we should get the next season of Apple TV+’s hit series, See. The first two seasons featuring this world of blind people were absolutely stunning. Momoa and co ensured an immersive experience by truly making us believe in the world of people who don’t possess sight. And the most impressive parts about this show are its well-shot action sequences.
Season 2 was huge as Momoa’s character Baba Voss fought his younger, ruthless brother Edo Voss. Now that Baba has secured his sighted children and left, it will be interesting how he returns to the scheme of things in Season 3. Production ended back in November 2021, so we should get season 3 in late 2022, probably before Aquaman 2 as well.
The Last Manhunt
This is another film that Momoa has already shot, but we don’t have a release date for it just yet. It is a tragic tale of love, death, and desert heat directed by Christian Camargo where Momoa plays a character called Big Jim. Although, it doesn’t seem that he would have a huge role in the movie. It is largely about two lovers, Willie Boy (Martin Sensmeier) and Carlota (Mainei Kinimaka) who run to the Mohave desert after accidentally killing Carlota’s father. It’ll be interesting to see whether they survive. This Western which takes place in 1909 should also arrive sometime this year. So yea, we’ve got 4 Momoa projects in 2022.
Announced Films That Haven’t Begun Filming Yet
Good Bad & Undead
It was reported back in 2020 that Jason Momoa and Peter Dinklage were in talks to produce and star in a movie called Good Bad & Undead. It is an original concept that would see Peter Dinklage playing the monster killer Van Helsing, and Momoa would be a Vampire who has sworn to never kill again. But what’s crazy is that the two will actually be running a scam together until a bounty gets placed on the Vampire’s (Momoa) head. And that would force them to go on the run. Sadly, nothing much has been heard about the project ever since. But we really hope that the two Game of Thrones actors will get to begin filming in the next couple of years.
Cliffhanger (Possibly)
Back in 2019, Momoa posted the aforementioned image and seemingly confirmed his role in director Ana Lily Amirpour’s movie, Cliffhanger. Momoa usually employs mountain climbing as a training routine. So this film would be perfect for him as it is about a mountain climber who gets caught up in a scheme involving thieves who are trying to recover stolen cash. It’s the remake of 1993’s classic film of the same name. But again, no real developments have happened on the film for a long time. So, it is doubtful whether this movie will see the light of day.
Besides all these projects, we could see Momoa’s character be brought back in one of the sequels of Dune. But anyway, which of these upcoming Jason Momoa movies (and series) are you excited about? Let us know in the comments.
