Olivia Colman has always been a respected name in the industry. From BBC’s Great Expectations to MCU’s Secret Invasion, the actress successfully ping pongs between prestigious productions and tentpoles. She has even earned an Oscar for Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite.
That’s not all. She has been nominated for The Father (2021) and The Lost Daughter (2022) as well. Now, the actress has joined another famous production. However, it’s not an indie production or an action flick; instead, it’s about a bear.
Olivia Colman Finds Herself In Paddington 3 With Ben Whishaw
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Olivia Colman has joined the cast of Paddington 3, which has been titled Paddington in Peru. The site has revealed that the actress will play a character who will run a retirement home in Peru for bears. It even hinted that there could be a connection with Paddington’s Aunt Lucy, who lives in a place called The Home for Retired Bears.
The outlet also mentioned that even though plot details are under wraps, the film will see the titular character travel from London to Peru. Shooting is set to be done in those two cities as well. Colman will star alongside Ben Whishaw, who has voiced the bear for a long time. Many will also recognize him as Q in the James Bond film Skyfall. As a franchise, Paddington has been pretty successful.
The first 2014 film grossed $252 million on a $55 million budget, while the second one raked in $192 million. So it’s a film that will certainly add to Colman’s resume. However, her filmography is definitely shining right now because she plays M16 agent Sonya Falsworth in Marvel’s Secret Invasion Disney+ series. But does she have any qualms about playing an agent and not a superhero?
Olivia Colman Revealed Her One Disappointment With MCU’s Secret Invasion
During an interview, Olivia Colman revealed that she didn’t do any research for her role as Sonya Falsworth in Secret Invasion, and neither did she ask for advice from anyone. The Empire of Light actress just straight-up said yes when Marvel offered the role. But she was disappointed that she wasn’t asked to play a superhero. Colman said:
“Oh god, yes. I think I asked a couple of people if I can be bitten by something or fall into a vat. I sort of imagined that if I ever did a Marvel movie, I’d be able to fly and zap people. But actually, this has turned out to be an awful lot of fun. I think Sonia has lots of fun without the need to fly.”
The first episode of Secret Invasion is out, and it has drawn a lot of interesting responses across social media platforms. Some are loving the show, while others have criticized the AI-made opening of the show. It now remains to be seen if it will live up to its hype or crash like She-Hulk.
Secret Invasion is streaming on Disney+.
