Irish actress Saoirse Ronan started her career on TV as a child actor. She made her film debut in the critically panned Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer starrer I Could Never Be Your Woman. The actress was considered to be one of the only good parts of the film. While the film was shot in 2005, it only received a limited release and was then pushed to video in 2007.

Ronan got her breakthrough role at the age of twelve in the Joe Wright-directed period drama Atonement. She starred along with James McAvoy and Keira Knightley in the film. Ronan played the role of an eccentric teen who in her immaturity changes the life of McAvoy’s character by accusing him of a crime he has not committed. Her performance earned her nominations for a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award.

Ronan’s next big role came in the form of Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones. She starred along with Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, and Mark Wahlberg in the supernatural drama. While the film only earned about $93 million against a $65 million budget, Ronan again received positive responses from critics. After starring in a bunch of other films, she rose to prominence with the film Brooklyn. She received another BAFTA, Gloden Globe, and an Oscar nomination for the role.

Saoirse Ronan received much acclaim for her performances in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. She had a starring role in the latter, playing the titular Lady Bird in the coming-of-age drama. The film was universally acclaimed and Ronan earned another Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She won the Golden Globe for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy.

Actress Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for the Academy Award four times. This makes her the second youngest nominee to be nominated that many times, coming up behind Jennifer Lawrence. She has regularly collaborated with the best directors of her time and has constantly been regarded as one of the best actresses of her generation.

She even performed on stage on Broadway as well as had a starring role in a production of William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, which the actress says was heavy on her. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said,

“Because of the discipline that it required – getting on my bike at 5 o’clock night after night, in the dead of winter, to do a play that dark and at a time when the country was still in the throes of COVID, meaning we were all carrying a heaviness already…When you’re working with weighty material, you find levity somehow. With Macbeth, it did feel hard to find the light.”

In fact, Ronan said that she would want to put a pause on her dramatic career and venture into the comedy space. She mentioned classic sitcoms such as Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm as the type of comedy that she wanted to explore. Ronan mentioned,

“I would love to do something modern and funny. But to be able to do comedy well requires so much skill and musicality. I don’t necessarily think I have that yet –although as I’ve got older, I am more comfortable and confident to try.”

She also mentioned the classic comedy Bridesmaids, which starred Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrn, Melissa McCarthy, and Rebel Wilson. Saoirse Ronan was last seen in the mystery comedy See How They Run and seems to be headed in the comedy direction.
