2023 May marked the official launch of filming, and by July, fans were treated to a tantalizing glimpse of Jackman’s Wolverine standing side by side with Reynolds’ Deadpool.

However, just days later, a hiccup in the form of the SAG-AFTRA strike temporarily halted production, though a substantial portion of the sequel had already been shot.

Shawn Levy, speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, addressed the recent leaks stemming from the on-location production.

Levy humorously acknowledged the internet’s role in exposing their efforts to create an authentic, grounded atmosphere. Speaking to Deadline, he revealed,

“We went to great lengths to not shoot it on sound stages with digital environments. The internet has proven that by (leaking) pictures of our shoot. Thank you internet! We wanted something that felt grounded, real.”

Regrettably, fans will have to exercise patience due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, as further glimpses of Reynolds’ next adventure remain on hold.

In the meantime, Deadpool 3 joins a list of projects in suspense, including Thunderbolts, Blade, Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again, and more. Nevertheless, the director also shed light on what’s in stock for the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

In the world of cinema, few franchises can match the sheer excitement generated by the irreverent and iconic Deadpool series.

While the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 has been the subject of fervent discussions, it’s the revelations from the screenwriter that have captured the attention of fans and critics alike.

Unlike its predecessors, Deadpool 3 sees Levy at the helm, known for his directorial work on Reynolds-led films like Free Guy and The Adam Project. This installment promises to be something truly special in the Deadpool saga.

While the movie welcomes back familiar faces from the previous two films, it bids farewell to Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin as Domino and Cable, respectively. However, the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine has catapulted Deadpool 3 to the top of the MCU’s most anticipated list.

Filming for the movie had been underway, but like much of the industry, it’s currently on hold due to ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Nonetheless, Levy recently provided a glimpse into what fans can expect from the film, highlighting the chemistry on set and emphasizing the movie’s raw and audacious R-rated nature. He disclosed in the interview with Deadline,

“Well, like the rest of our industry, or at least large swaths of it, we are paused. We were halfway through filming. It was a joy every day, and that chemistry is, I have to say, spoiler alert, as relentlessly awesome as we had all hoped it would be. But we are halfway through filming. I was not going to mess with the DNA of that franchise. Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated.”

While specific plot details remain under wraps, Levy’s insights have stoked the flames of anticipation among fans worldwide. As the Deadpool universe continues its expansion, enthusiasts eagerly await the return of the Merc with a Mouth to the silver screen.

Deadpool 3 is currently set to be released in May 2024.
