Roccat Torch Microphone Review – This Mic Is Hot!

The Roccat Torch is a nifty desktop USB microphone designed for gamers, content creators, and streamers. It comes packaged with a number of features that allow it to stand out within a crowded market, such as an aesthetically pleasing lighting system that enables users to customize the look of the microphone to match the rest of their setup. Other features include a tactile physical control panel that allows for fine-tuning of the audio output.

Upon first seeing the Roccat Torch, the unconventional, striking aesthetic design of the microphone is the thing that immediately stands out. The device is sleek and modern-looking, taking the shape of a kayak paddle with a matte black finish. This distinctive shape in combination with the integrated lighting system makes the mic immediately stand out within any setup. To help tie it in with a previously established theme, users can choose from a range of colors and lighting effects within the Roccat Swarm software to adorn the Torch.

The mic is also fairly impressive in terms of its functionality. The Roccat Torch utilizes a cardioid polar pattern, which is ideal for capturing sound from a single source while simultaneously minimizing background noise. This means that the Torch works well when being used to podcast or record vocal tracks for sound mixing.

The Torch carries a frequency response range of 20Hz to 20kHz, which is the standard for most microphones and matches the range of human hearing, meaning that Roccat’s mic is more than sufficient when it comes to capturing audio in an indoor setting. The mic’s 20Hz to 20kHz range also means that it is capable of capturing a fairly wide range of frequencies, from deep bass tones to high-pitched sounds, making its usage pretty diverse.

Beyond using it to control the Torch’s lighting effects, Roccat’s Swarm software also allows users to fine-tune the mic’s audio output to suit their preference. The software includes a range of virtual controls, allowing gain and volume to be adjusted within the application. A range of effects and filters can also be applied to the audio output via Swarm. This allows users to customize the sound to match their preferences and the specific requirements of their content.

Aside from the virtual controls, the Roccat Torch also comes with a mixer base which can be used to adjust input setting on the fly. Having this tactile, physical counterpart to the Swarm software is a welcome inclusion and saves a lot of hassle when having to adjust setting mid-recording. Even when using the Torch with a boom arm, the connection to the PC still has to pass through the mixer base. This does limit portability to a certain extent and causes the device to essentially be restricted to desktop usage only.

Aside from that specific downside, the Roccat Torch is extremely easy to set up and use. Due to the nature of its USB connection, the mic is plug-and-play compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. It can easily be used with a range of recording and streaming software, including OBS, Streamlabs, and Discord.

Overall, the Roccat Torch is an impressive desktop USB microphone that offers a range of features and functionality that make it well-suited for gaming, podcasting, and streaming. In terms of its audio quality; as long as you don’t expect it to be able to compete with studio-quality XLR microphones, then it worth the asking price. Its unique design and customizable lighting system also allow it to stand out as an eye catching element within any setup.
