Following the recent trend of studios trying to replicate the success of the previously established adaptation of popular books, it seems that Lionsgate has the same vision for the Twilight franchise. Considering that the original movies were able to garner around $3.35 billion at the box office, it was only a matter of time before the studios returned to one of their biggest cash cows.
Although the Twilight movies weren’t much well-received among critics like the Harry Potter adaptations but alike Harry Potter, the Vampire romance tale is set to be recreated for the small screen.
The upcoming Twilight project is reportedly a TV Show
Just like HBO Max (to be rebranded as Max), who is set to craft the new Harry Potter project into a TV show, Lionsgate has similar plans for one of their most successful franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, unlike the previous adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s widely successful novels, the upcoming Twilight project will be adapted in the form of a TV show.
However, this isn’t the first time when Lionsgate shared their desire of crafting more Twilight content, as back in 2017, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer shared their interest in the subject. According to a Variety report, “He implied, however, that the company will only go forward with fresh installments or spinoffs in the blockbuster series if they get the sign-off from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.”
Although the inclusion of author Stephenie Meyer in the upcoming series who co-produced the final two installments in the original Saga isn’t official, the details about the upcoming show aren’t clear.
Details regarding the upcoming series are under wraps
Although it has been confirmed that the retelling of the previously established franchise will be in the form of a TV series, other details, including the plot, story, and cast are still under wraps. There also hasn’t been any confirmation on the fact whether the upcoming series will be a reboot or will be a spinoff of the original movies and reports claim that the show doesn’t have a platform yet.
But considering that the upcoming Harry Potter series will not include old stars like Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe and will comprise a brand new cast, the same can be expected from the Twilight series. And bearing in mind that Robert Pattinson has been pretty vocal about his distaste for the franchise, it’s reasonable to assume that he will not be returning in the retelling of the story of a Sparkly Vampire.
Following recent reports of the project being in its very early stages, it seems that it will be a long wait for the fans of the original Saga to witness some brand-new Twilight content.
