Robert Downey Jr. said goodbye to MCU in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame as Iron Man sacrificed himself to save the universe. Fans were devastated as they saw their favorite Avenger and superhero leaving the cinematic universe. However, as the next phase of the MCU explores more into the multiverse, and with the presence of time travel, fans believe that they could see Iron Man again. Although the studio has not yet confirmed anything, there have been several rumors about his return.
Rumors about Tony Stark’s comeback have varied from Armor Wars to Secret Wars. And once again, a source has confirmed that the Avengers star will come back to save the universe from Kang in the upcoming Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
Robert Downey Jr. to Return in the Upcoming Avengers Films
Robert Downey Jr. won over fans with his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU. He started portraying the character in the 2008 film Iron Man, and continued portraying the character for a decade. He was last seen as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame. However, his character sacrificed himself in his efforts to save the universe from Thanos.
The cinematic universe moved ahead with a new phase and started introducing new superheroes. But fans were still expecting to see Downey Jr’s return. Even if it was not an easy to feat to achieve. Now the MCU is again under a threat from the new supervillain, Kang the Conqueror, in the next phases.
As Kang’s threat looms around the MCU, fans expect Iron Man to come back to save the day once again. Followed by several rumors, an MCU source has confirmed that the Age of Ultron star would come back in the upcoming Avengers movies.
According to the source, Robert Downey Jr will return at the end of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. And considering there have been numerous rumors about the Infinity War star having a cameo in Secret Wars, he could also join Avengers till the last film of Phase 6.
Although the studio has not confirmed anything yet, fans seem excited about the return of their favorite superhero. While some fans are hopeful for his comeback, others are not happy with Downey Jr.’s comeback getting spoiled in this way.
Fans Believe Iron Man’s Return would Outshine the Other Superheroes
While the news certainly has been exciting for the MCU fans as they await the next Avengers movie, not all fans are happy with it. Rumors about Robert Downey Jr’s potential comeback do not seem too exciting for them. No one wants spoilers!
As MCU Source confirmed the Sherlock Holmes star’s comeback, fans started pointing out how it would affect the other superheroes. They argued that if Iron Man would join Avengers in the upcoming movies, he would outshine the new superheroes.
They also shared that they are not happy with one of the most awaited comebacks being spoiled like this. One fan said, “Why would you spoil something like that?” Some fans also shared that they expect Marvel to introduce a multiverse variant of Iron Man, instead of the original superhero.
However, even after all these rumors and assumptions, the studio has not confirmed anything about Robert Downey Jr’s return just yet. And considering the hype around his return, the studio would probably not spoil something like this before the release of the film. So, fans would just have to wait and see if Iron Man would return in the future of the MCU.
