Jon Favreau made ‘history’ when he decided to direct MCU’s Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead. The film laid the foundation for the entire Marvel Universe and helped it become one of the largest franchises in the history of cinema. Jon Favreau’s success in the MCU led him to enter the world of one of the other biggest franchises in the world, Star Wars.
Favreau has donned the role of creator, writer, and executive producer, as well as director of the popular live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and Robert Downey Jr. is not surprised by it.
Robert Downey Jr. Is Not Surprised By Jon Favreau’s Star Wars Run
An amazing director and a talented actor, Jon Favreau is a force to be reckoned with. The talented director helped MCU become one of the biggest and highest-grossing franchises by directing and starring in Iron Man. It was his remarkable talent that made Robert Downey Jr. realize early on that Favreau might be a good choice for Star Wars.
In one of the early scenes of Iron Man, Tony Stark crashes into a desert as his suit is destroyed amid a severe windstorm. It was this scene that gave Downey a very Star Wars feel.
“There’s another moment where Tony has escaped the cave and essentially become Iron Man. And he lands in this kind of crater outside the cave where he’s being held. There was a windstorm that day and we were trying to get this take and it was very Star Wars-Esque in a way, very reminiscent of what Jon has wound up doing since with Mandalorian.”
Given the windstorm and the desert around them, it is not surprising that Downey felt that, for the scene did give a very Tatoonie-like feel.
Iron Man’s Success Was Instrumental For Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian Run
Iron Man’s success has made Jon Favreau the man he is, and that is not to demean his talent and versatility. Favreau’s Marvel run helped showcase how talented the director and actor is while demonstrating his ability to create perfectly crafted scenes even when the film was being written as they were shooting.
His proven track record, creative vision, and understanding of the audience’s preference about each character and storyline helped showcase Favreau’s ability to create and handle a show like The Mandalorian. Seeing the success The Mandalorian has achieved over the years only proves how critical the Spider-Man star is when it comes to direction, storytelling, and production.
While Iron Man may not have directly influenced Fraveau getting to create The Mandalorian, its success certainly contributed to his reputation.
Both Iron Man and The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
