With that number, Resident Evil 2 Remake also becomes the third best-selling game in Capcom history behind only Monster Hunter Rise with 13.2 million sales and two years of release and Monster Hunter World with 19 million units 5 years after its launching.

Resident Evil 2 Remake sales were also boosted by the wise move to make the free upgrade available for next-gen consoles and an enhanced game version for PC users in June 2022. Enticing new buyers to enjoy the supported title experience for 4K, higher frame rates, ray tracing, and the implementation of 3D audio.

Now we can assume what this outstanding success could mean for the future of the franchise in Capcom’s plans, since successes and failures, mainly financial, make projects that worked continue and failures are canceled. In the case of Resident Evil 2 Remake, it is to be expected that new remasters of franchise titles will be put in progress or accelerated development if they are already happening

It is also worth noting that fans of the franchise are interested in playing more and more of the series, otherwise, they would not be buying the title of such success, but it would be the will of fans to buy old games as remakes or new original stories that can bring new elements to the franchise.

So the massive success of Resident Evil 2 Remake, in addition to cementing the game as the biggest financial success in the series, could hype fans up for what’s next to haunt them in the horror franchise.
