Among the many actors on strike in the wake of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the celebrated Disney actor Robert Carradine has also expressed his support. The star, who played Hillary Duff’s dad in the popular TV show Lizzie McGuire, also revealed that he was once paid $0.00 in residuals from the celebrated Disney Studios.
His revelation has unleashed a fresh strike of fury and anger from fans and the public, who once again stood in support of the actor and his fellow actors on strike. However, this hasn’t been the first time when actors were paid nada or pennies in residuals.
Robert Carradine Got A Humiliating Check From Disney In Residuals
Robert Carradine is widely hailed as the best dad in the entire Disney Universe. The actor popularly played Hillary Duff‘s on-screen father in the Disney series Lizzie McGuire from 2001 to 2004. He also reprised his role in the Disney film The Lizzie McGuire Movie in 2003. Known for being a charismatic actor, his character in the popular Disney series remains one of the most beloved ones that fans continue to cheer for.
Apart from Lizzie McGuire, Carradine has also starred in Disney’s Mom’s Got a Vampire as well as Max’s Keeble’s Big Move. As the SAG-AFTRA strike rages on, his confession of receiving such a humiliating check has triggered fans who pointed out that the reputed film studio chose to spend more money on the postage than paying him his due.
Robert Carradine posted the image of the check on his official Instagram along with the caption,
“Why we’re striking….”
While the actor has not confirmed for which of his Disney credits he paid $0.00 in residuals, fans have been speculating that it was for the hit television series. The check was issued in the name of Walt Disney Pictures’ Disney Worldwide Service Inc., which makes it exemplary yet disappointing over the studios handling of residuals.
Robert Carradine’s Residual Check And The SAG-AFTRA Strike
Robert Carradine’s post comes just weeks after the SAG-AFTRA declared a strike against the many television and film producers and studios, and months after WGA declared a strike on similar grounds. This has been the first time since 1960 that the two labor unions for actors and screenwriters, etc are on strike simultaneously.
Robert Carradine isn’t the first person who was humiliated by a celebrated studio, for there have been many accounts of other actors being paid pennies in exchange for their crafts. The ongoing strikes touch upon these matters and more as they stand in solidarity. The strike has halted the production of major films and series, including the postponement of award ceremonies. Despite the controversy and work stoppages, it is about time that actors and screenwriters, and others involved are paid fair dues and have all their rational demands met.
Lizzie McGuire is available to stream on Disney+.
