Razer Viper V2 Pro Mouse Review- Is This Lightweight Mouse A Heavy Hitter?

The Razer Viper V2 Pro is one of the best wireless gaming mice on the market. Not only is it extremely lightweight, coming in at just 58g, but it also boasts up to 80 hours of battery life from one full charge. With some of the most advanced technology Razer has ever packed into a mouse the Viper V2 pro is a hyper-responsive wireless mouse that pulls no punches against the competition.

However, the V2 Pro’s price also pulls no punches either. With it being as light on features as it is light in weight, The £149.99/ $149.99 for the standard model may push some to find cheaper alternatives. The version used in this review is the Razer Viper V2 Pro – PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Edition, with its slick yellow and black colour scheme, which comes in at  £189.99/ $169.99.

Besides the hefty price tag, the Viper V2 pro is a sleek and lightweight mouse with a ridiculously good battery life. Now you may be wondering “How did Razer manage to make the Viper V2 pro weigh 58g?” Well, the answer, as you might expect, is simply; they gutted the thing.

As it’s from the Viper line of models, Razer has taken away several features present in the flagship, Razer Viper Ultimate to achieve the Viper V2 pro’s lightweight design. By removing the RGB lighting, the right-side mouse buttons and integrating the DPI switch into the power button, there have been crucial changes made to achieve the 58g weight.

Despite a lack of features, Razer has still managed to innovate on previous Viper products. By including the Razer Focus Pro 30K Optical sensor and their V3 optical switches for the lowest latency possible, this mouse is built for gaming.

The built-in grips are gone too, (again all in the name of saving those precious “g’s”), with Razer opting to include grip tape inside the box instead. It could be argued that this may be going a step too far by sacrificing user comfort for a lighter weight, but the included grips work perfectly well in providing comfort and stability. In terms of overall comfort, I found that those with larger hands may struggle to grip the Razer Viper V2 as due to its light weight, it is on the smaller side.

In my opinion, the biggest issue for the Viper V2 Pro is the lack of support for left-handed users. The only reason I feel that this impacts the V2 Pro especially is that the Viper Ultimate had right-side buttons that allowed it to be more versatile than the competition. By getting rid of these buttons Razer may have saved weight and helped performance but lost that little bit of flexibility present in previous Viper products.

Although it lacks some of the features of its predecessor the Viper V2 Pro heavily benefits from the user of Razers Synapse software. From the launcher, you can adjust settings relating to DPI presets, which by default are 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and 6400.

However, you can also control things like how quickly the mouse enters low power and sleep modes and there are also mouse mat surface calibration tools. Although they may seem like minor setting adjustments Synapse can help you tailor your mouse, so it provides the perfect experience.

With the limited features of the V2 Pro, you do also lose out on some key aspects of the Synapse software, specifically relating to programmable buttons. Whereas the Ultimate has eight programmable buttons for macro customisation the V2 Pro only has five. This may scare away those who are looking for the “ultimate customisable” gaming set up but for me, five worked just fine. The only issue with the lack of buttons was the lack of a dedicated DPI switch, as I found it weird for it to be integrated into the power button.

If you are somewhat hesitant about cutting the cord for fear of connection quality issues, The Viper V2 Pro communicates with its 2.4GHz wireless dongle flawlessly, to the point that you’d think you were wired up anyway. Although the wired option is still there for those who don’t trust wireless, Razer’s Hyperspeed dongle means that you are guaranteed to have low-latency gaming every time.

Overall, the Viper V2 Pro is a fantastic lightweight mouse. Is it better and more complete than the Viper Ultimate? No of course not, but the uber lightweight and sleek design are very appealing for those who are looking for a less flashy and more minimalist set-up.
