Punisher Writer's Bombshell Revelation: Disney Won't Ever Let Jon Bernthal Solo MCU Series Happen? Chuck Dixon Says Fans Love Him, Marvel Won’t

In the world of superpowered superheroes with supersized problems created by a myriad of supervillains, the landscape has gotten quite stagnant, to say the least, which is why modern-age grounded heroes are all the rage today. Therefore, characters like The Punisher from the pages of Marvel Comics have been gaining popularity in recent years within pop culture.

And the popularity of the character shot up when Jon Bernthal played the role of Frank Castle in the Netflix series of the same name. And now, as the star gears up to make an expected appearance once more in the MCU in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, fans are hoping to see him in his own solo action series in the future. But recently, the creator of the hero snuffed that hope by revealing why this might never happen.

Does Marvel Hate The Punisher?

Before the dissolution of Marvel Entertainment, Netflix was collaborating with the company to bring many lesser-known heroes from Marvel Comics onto the small screen, which also included Jon Bernthal in and as The Punisher. And beyond expectations, fans fell in love with the character, which led to a meteoric rise in its popularity. And now, when he’s finally ready to make his reappearance, a hope that was burning in everyone’s mind about a solo series about the ex-soldier may have been snuffed by the creator itself.

As Marvel Studios prepares to release the long-awaited Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+ with original Netflix series actor Charlie Cox, fans also have been given the thumbs-up that Bernthal’s character of Frank Castle will make an appearance somewhere. But, creator Chuck Dixon advises the fans not to hope to see the hero in action in his solo project. In a recent episode of his series Ask Chuck Dixon on his YouTube channel, he talked about why Marvel hates his creation so much, saying:

“The main reason they wanted to get rid of the Punisher is because they hated the Punisher and they hate you for liking it. It’s that simple, why else would they do what they did in such a ham-handed, Soviet-style deconstruction of an extremely popular fiction character? Who would do that? Why would they do that? They don’t like you. It’s as simple as that.”

In his episode, he lists out several reasons why the fans like the character so much, but the executives and other creators at Marvel dislike the presence of The Punisher so much.

With the confirmation by Vincent D’Onofrio, the star who plays the infamous Kingpin in the MCU that Bernthal’s Punisher will be a major part of Daredevil: Born Again, fans have been assured of the return of the crime-fighting vigilante, but whether we will see him in his own solo project is uncertain. Considering that Marvel Studios is known to cater to its fandom, if the response to the character is satisfactory, they might be inclined to put him in the spotlight.
