The gaming landscape is still trying to figure out cloud streaming as a process itself, and now with the PS5 Cloud Streaming Beta, it seems that Sony is doubling down on being able to stream games from the cloud on your PS5 system.
The beta has currently only been handed out to random users across the PlayStation Network. This is not to be confused with the already included cloud streaming service that comes with PlayStation Plus Premium annd allows you to stream specific PS3, PS4, and classic titles. This is something entirely new that will seemingly have a stronger infrastructure and foundation.

What Is Included in the PS5 Cloud Streaming Beta?
The beta, which is currently being rolled out to random PSN users, is allowing those users to stream titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, as well as try out the free Game Trials for games such as The Last of Us Part 1 and Cyberpunk 2077. According to PlayStation Blog, some digital PS5 titles are also accessible.
We’re currently testing cloud streaming for supported PS5 games – this includes PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Game Trials, as well as supported digital PS5 titles that players own.
The blog post further adds that streaming supported PS5 titles directly on your system without the need to download them first will become much easier. It’s important to note that one requires an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription to access this feature.

Some Users Have Been Granted Access to the PS5 Cloud Streaming Beta
Some users are testing out the beta, which, according to them, offers multiple resolution options. This included being able to stream games at 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and the real kicker, 2160p (or 4K). On the same forum, some users are testing out games like Returnal as well as God of War: Ragnarök.
What’s surprising about all of this is the ability to stream at 4K. Unlike the PS5 cloud streaming service, the main competition, Xbox Cloud Streaming, does not allow streaming at 4K. It seems that the players who have used the service are pleasantly surprised at how well it runs, but they also hope that Sony’s upcoming Remote Play-Handheld hybrid, Project Q, supports this.

Sony Is Going All In On Cloud Streaming
Since last year, Sony has been hard at work upgrading the PlayStation Plus benefits, and with how big games are nowadays, this could be a worthy way to play your favourite games. Previously, PlayStation Now was the service that would allow cloud streaming, but ever since it’s merger with PlayStation Plus, users have been left wanting a suitable catalog of games as well as seamless gameplay.
Earlier this year, Jim Ryan stated that Sony has aggressive plans for PS5 Cloud Streaming.
“We observe mobility in gaming habits to be an increasingly important trend, and the cloud will be fundamental to allowing us, or indeed anybody else, to exploit that trend.”
The future is looking bright for cloud streaming on the PS5. PlayStation Plus is still overshadowed by Xbox’s Game Pass. This may be just what Sony needs to tip gamers over to their side.
