Actor Daniel Radcliffe became a household name by playing Harry Potter in the beloved Harry Potter franchise. He grew up in the eight-film series, starting at the age of 12 in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. He starred in the franchise along with actors Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
Radcliffe has since branched out and explored his acting range in many indie and off-the-beat films. He has been seen as a worthy candidate to replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, and now the MCU.
Daniel Radcliffe After Harry Potter
There is something about child actors who started out in blockbuster franchises that makes them averse to it. Robert Pattinson had the same career graph and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe might tread on the same path as well. The actor has not starred in many huge film franchise ever since the fantasy series and has chosen to focus more on the stage and act in independent films.
The actor has been part of West End plays since 2007, playing the lead in a revival of Peter Schaffer’s ‘Equus’. He was acclaimed for his deep performance and was considered to be ready for more adult roles, contrary to his teen-friendly image. He slowly transitioned to star in independent films such as Horns, Imperium, and Jungle.
Radcliffe played a talking corpse in Swiss Army Man. He starred along with Paul Dano in the film. He starred in the action comedy Guns Akimbo and also returned to blockbusters with films like Now You See Me 2 and The Lost City.
Why Do Fans Think Daniel Radcliffe Could Play Wolverine?
Much like Pattinson’s return to franchises with The Batman, Daniel Radcliffe too is being eyed for a superhero. Fans have been campaigning for the actor to be cast as Logan a.k.a Wolverine in the MCU. Hugh Jackman has become synonymous with the character. Jackman had bid farewell to the character in 2017, with his apparent final appearance being in James Mangold’s Logan.
While prompting his film The Lost City, in which he stars along with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Radcliffe mentioned that he is aware of the campaign and addressed it,
“This is something that has come up every so often for the last few years. And every time it comes up, I’m like, ‘That’s not true. There’s nothing behind that.”’ And everyone’s like, ‘Oh, he said it might be true.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I didn’t. I said the opposite of that.’”
Radcliffe mentioned that a possible reason why he was being considered for the role was because of his short height, which was closer to what the character is like in the comics. He mentioned in the show,
“So the other day, I was like, ‘Prove me wrong, Marvel.’And then that has ignited a whole thing. But yeah, I think it’s ’cause there — like, Wolverine in the comics is fairly short. So I think it’s people going like, ‘Who’s a short actor? Him [Daniel Radcliffe]. He can maybe play him.’”
When Hugh Jackman was first cast as Wolverine, many fans were against the choice as Jackman was taller than Logan was in the comics. However, the actor has since been accepted as the character and is even returning to the role in Deadpool 3.
