The 2000s were messy times for Mel Gibson, as controversies would flood the actor’s career, resulting in his fall from grace, and being blacklisted from Hollywood for several years. From his anti-Semitic rant to getting involved in a domestic violence scandal, after his former partner Oksana Grigorieva accused the actor back in 2010, his stardom experienced a steep decline.
After being charged with misdemeanor battery against the Russian songwriter, they cut a plea deal with prosecutors back in 2011, with Grigorieva receiving $750K from Gibson in a settlement. But years after their messy separation, Gibson once again found himself in the spotlight after Grigorieva claimed she was allegedly suffering from PTSD.
Mel Gibson’s former partner claimed she developed PTSD from assault
Not long after Mel Gibson found his footing back in the realm of Hollywood after earning an Oscar nod for Best Director, his former controversies regarding his controversial bond with Grigorieva resurfaced. The singer came forward to address the consequences of her relationship with the Braveheart star, claiming the alleged assault she had to endure during their time together has led her to develop several health concerns. The singer explained she had developed PTSD “due to domestic violence and the protracted, expensive, and difficult paternity battle she had to endure.”
Oksana Grigorieva also claimed the alleged violence from Gibson during their time together accompanied by her financial struggles have resulted in her developing a tumor near her brain. She claimed,
“As a result of the stresses of litigation and bankruptcy, I was recently diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma and will need to go through treatments in the near future, with increased medical bills.”
Although Gibson did agree that he slapped Oksana Grigorieva back during their time together, he debunked her claims of repeatedly assaulting her, as he shared his viewpoint.
Mel Gibson denied Oksana Grigorieva’s claims
In 2010, when Mel Gibson found himself in hot waters, he denied the claims disclosed by Oksana Grigoreiva. Even though the actor did admit to slapping the Russian singer once, he debunked the claims of knocking her out while giving her a concussion, The actor alleged,
“I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality. I did not slap her hard. I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia (his daughter) back and forth.”
But the actor refused to comment on Grigorieva’s claims of allegedly being diagnosed with PTSD as a result of assault, as it appears, the actor is ready to leave his scandal-scarred past behind.
