Currently there are three different versions of the PlayStation Plus Subscription.

The new prices for PS Plus subscriptions are set to change on September 6th, and will make a somewhat significant price jump for each version. These prices are for the 12-month subscription option, so they will be pretty significant in comparison to what they would be for a 3-month subscription or maybe even the 6-month version.

Currently, the price for each version of the PS Plus subscription will be increasing by $20, and those subscription options are: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. The exact change to those prices will be $79.99 for PS Plus Essential, $134.99 for PS Plus Extra, $159.99 for PS Plus Premium. Due to these increases, many gamers are not happy and have already begun to cause problems for PlayStation.

When it comes to PS Plus, many gamers have already decided to cancel their subscriptions as they have begun to realize that PS Plus is only a good option if you want to play multiplayer games and enjoy a few free titles every month. But this is also why that service has such a high price, as it offers numerous games throughout the year that could cost a lot of money, and over the 12-months players can earn their money back in free games.

What Will Happen if Enough People Cancel Their PS Plus Subscription?

Throughout the PlayStation Plus Subscription there are many games to choose from.
Throughout the PlayStation Plus Subscription there are many games from which one can choose.

At the moment, many of those gamers who are either looking to cancel or have already cancelled their subscriptions, are mainly doing so to encourage Sony and PlayStation to reduce prices. The goal is that by causing an impact to the overall income through these subscriptions, the price change will not be made. However, so far, only a select few thousand users have taken this kind of action, and it may not have even been noticed by Sony.

To get the effect many gamers are looking for, they will need to have players on a grand scale cancel their subscriptions to make a noticeable impact against Sony. But until either Sony reduces the price of the subscription or provides players with worthwhile games, the company is likely to see continued reductions in its overall member count.

For now, Sony does not have any intention to change its decision on the subscription service prices. If players keep dropping like flies, it could make some form of impact in the future, but not the near future unfortunately.
