Fans of Metal Gear Solid rejoice, as we’ve been shocked and surprised with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1!
Much has been made of the enormity of this year’s PlayStation Showcase, both in the spectacle of the first gaming show of the year, and the content’s of what exactly is going to be shown off. Not disappointing anyone, Konami and Sony have finally given players what they’ve long since been asking for in this age of remakes and remasters… a remaster/remake of the first THREE Metal Gear Solid games. Whilst the three games are enough to be excited by, the ‘Vol. 1’ is also extremely exciting. Does this mean we’ll be getting remakes and remasters of the entire series!?

Whilst many of us expected the remaster of the third game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, it seems Konami has been playing games with us, as not only are we getting a fully fledged remaster of the third, but also the first three in a collection titled Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 – What’s Known?
Konami do have a history of keeping their cards close to their chest where content and development is concerned, so we don’t know a great deal of what is actually on offer with the remake.
Anyone that has played one of the numerous remakes of late will be able to attest that some things change from old to new versions, be it for playability reasons, controls, out-of-date stories and so on, but by and large the majority of it will stay the same, we hope, as for the most part, the first three Metal Gear Solid games are solid, and for good reason are considered some of the best games we’ve ever been lucky enough to play.

The original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is widely considered to the best of the already fantastic bunch, with entry after entry being considered ‘must play’, but for various reasons, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was many fans’ first foray into the series. Released in 2004, the game was actually set first in the winding and twisting timeline that is the Metal Gear series. Playing as Naked Snake, you’d work your way through a convoluted and complex story of political betrayal, over-the-top boss battles and genuinely intelligent and well-thought out boss battles, rather than just the same old ‘pow pow’ of other games.
Due out with a tentative Autumn 2023 on PS5, it’s safe to say that the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection is a remaster we’ll all be buying. however Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater doesn’t have a release date, as of yet. Unfortunately for those on Xbox and PC it does seem that at least for now you’ll be missing out, until otherwise confirmed.
