Paul Rudd Accidentally Reveals Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool Will be an Avenger Amid Endless Avengers: Secret Wars Rumors?

It has been known for a long time that there’s an Avengers group chat. Chris Hemsworth revealed in November 2022 at Jimmy Kimmel Live, that the original seven Avengers roasted Chris Evans when he was declared the sexiest man alive in 2022 by People’s magazine. However, their group chat might not be the only one. Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd has revealed the existence of multiple such Avengers chat groups, and in one of them, there’s an unlikely member- Ryan Reynolds. Why is an actor who isn’t even in the MCU right now in an Avengers group chat?

During an interview with IMDb for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, lead actor Paul Rudd was asked if there is an Avengers group text. He admitted that there’s one he is a part of. Also, he spilled the beans and said that there are actually multiple such chat groups. As per the actor:

“What a great question, there is. and it has gone on for years. I know I am in one. There might be a couple of separate ones going on. I am in one because we formed one years ago as a fantasy football league and so some people have kind of come and gone.”

Next, he said something that made everyone’s eyebrows raise up. He named the actors who are in his group chat and one of them is Ryan Reynolds. Rudd said:

“There have been Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Don Cheadle, Ryan Reynolds, that’s a lot of texts. There are a lot of memes (sent to the group) of 5-year-olds like falling or you know all the stuff that people pass around (in chats), we do the same thing.”

It looks like everyone goofs around in the group chat, as per Rudd. However, the existence of Ryan Reynolds in an Avengers group text is surprising. After all, the Deadpool actor isn’t even officially a part of the MCU yet, so what is he doing in an Avengers chat? On the flip side, does his being in the group chat mean that he is going to be a part of the Avengers soon?

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool isn’t part of the MCU right now. But he will probably be after Deadpool 3 arrives. After all, rumors swirling around about his merc-with-a-mouth trying to escape the Time Variance Authority, who are after him for using Cable’s time travel device in Deadpool 2. It’s speculated that by the end of the film, Wade Wilson will be in the MCU timeline.

Whether this is exactly the plot of the film isn’t confirmed yet. However, one thing is certain. Eventually, the 4th-wall-breaking hero will arrive at the MCU. If not in Deadpool 3, then possibly in Avengers: Secret Wars. After all, Reynolds’ hero is rumored to be one of the many multiversal heroes who will help the Avengers in their fight against Kang.

If he really does help in the fight, then he will definitely be an Avenger from then on. So Reynolds being in the group chat with Evans, Rudd, and more could hint at such a plotline. However, it’s also possible that Reynolds is just a friend of all the other actors. Since he is playing a Marvel character too, so they brought him into the chat. But it will certainly be interesting to see how much of the speculation surrounding Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars comes true.

Deadpool 3 releases on 8 November 2024, while Avengers: Secret Wars hits theaters on 1 May 2026.
