“It’s a real tough situation to be in”: Path of Exile 2 Developers have Sympathy for Diablo 4 Developers for their Current Situation

Recently Diablo 4 has been having a few problems in regard to patches that have been released for their brand new season of the Malignant, which was released not so long ago. After this season was released, Blizzard developers have been receiving a lot of complaints from fans of the franchise due to the mistakes they have made in this recent update, and the developers of Path Of Exile 2, which is Grinding Gear Games and are very sympathetic of their blight as they understand what they are going through.

What was brought along with this patch, and why have the Path Of Exile 2 developers spoken about it?

The Path Of Exile 2 developers could learn a lot regarding what not to do from Diablo 4.

As Diablo 4 began its first season, the developers released a patch which caused numerous nerfs and buffs of certain characters, and due to this, many gamers were not happy with this as two of the game’s five classes were nerfed into oblivion, and those classes were Sorcerer and Barbarian. Usually, nerfs and buffs aren’t an issue in games depending on their severity, but the nerfs and buffs that were applied to these two classes caused them to be considered the two worst classes to play at the beginning of the season.

After these changes were implemented into the game Diablo 4‘s developer Blizzard received a lot of backlash from their fans, and due to this, the developers of Path Of Exile 2 have shown their sympathy for Blizzard as they say things like

Honestly, when I look at that, all I can think is, ‘Man, it’s tough. It’s a real tough situation to be in,

As they comment on how difficult it is to manage changes like these in a live service game as they also state

The learning process for running a live game with Seasons like this is a hard one,”

Which shows they understand their pain and shows they will avoid this in Path Of Exile 2 when it releases.

Let’s hope that Blizzard learnt from this mistake for the sake of Diablo 4.

The nature of regular updates means that Diablo 4 can still be salvaged.

After this unfortunate mistake by Blizzard, they have announced that before they do any changes like this in the future, they will provide the patch notes that will be coming in the update to the community so that players are able to see what will be changing in advance and are able to adapt to those changes. Even though they know what they have done wrong, they have stated they won’t be doing a patch like the 1.1.0 patch and changing so many things about certain classes without replacing those changes with something equally good.

After all of these changes that will be coming to Diablo 4, the Path Of Exile 2 developers have stated that they understand why Blizzard did what they did by saying, “There are times when a developer looks at a thing in their game that is too fast and they think. ‘I should slow this down,'” and they also stated that “there is a process for that.”. This is Grinding Gear’s way of saying that Blizzard made a mistake doing what they did and that they should change their view on their patches which they are planning to do, and this has also helped Grinding Gears know what to avoid when Path Of Exile 2 releases in 2024.
