The air is thick with anticipation as the 95th Academy Awards edge closer. With an array of exceptional nominations battling for the gilded trophy, the competition is certainly going to be a cut-throat one.
A horde of highly acclaimed artists, films, and shows have been nominated for Oscars 2023. While there are a select few including Brendan Fraser and Austin Butler who welcomed their first-ever Oscar nomination this year, others like Michelle Williams and Cate Blanchett are old players stepping into the arena.
In the best film category, we have the likes of James Cameron’s masterpiece sequel Avatar: The Way of Water joined by Baz Luhrmann-helmed biopic titled Elvis, along with Tom Cruise-led blockbuster sequel Top Gun 2, and Everything Everywhere All at Once starring Michelle Yeoh, who also won a nomination for the Best Actress. A number of other brilliant nominees have only made the competition more exciting.
Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick became the highest-grossing movie of 2022 after grossing about $1.4 billion worldwide. Not only did the film revive the theatrical industry, but it also became Cruise’s biggest global hit in the entirety of his career. So, it certainly has a solid shot at bagging an Oscar. At the same time though, Everything Everywhere All at Once has been hailed to be a pure cinematic feast to dig into and is already soaring high after receiving a number of accolades. The other contenders too seem to be giving a tough competition and it’s going to be a wild ride of wins and losses.
