John Wick Director, Chad Stahelski, has been vocal about his interest in PlayStation games, and how games have inspired his movies. He is already said to be involved in a couple of live-action movies based on two smash hit games, one of them being Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. While that movie isn’t planned yet, Stahelski did reveal that he would love to work with Michael B. Jordan on that project.
For now, his passion project seems to be the movie adaptation which he plans to work on next, based on a PlayStation exclusive, smash-hit game – and no it’s not God of War. As someone who never plays games personally, Stahelski is still quite passionate about the project and the game being adapted for the big screen.
Chad Stahelski Never Plays Games But Watches Gameplay
Most game adaptations are made by directors who haven’t played and experienced the games personally, but by watching others play the game and taking notes from it. While Stahelski considers games to have inspired a lot of his work, including his John Wick movies where the gun fights are on point, he revealed he could never turn on a PlayStation if asked to.
That being said, his Rainbow Six movie, starring Michael B. Jordan, will already be an action-packed project to take over, whenever he does start working on it, but it’s the other movie adaptation on his plans that is considered a lot more intense. Stahelski mentioned how he consumes games by just watching as he follows the narratives in games for his work. That must be quite some way to plan a movie adaptation of a game that was inspired by samurai cinema and features a whole lot of stealth, and combat.
Chad Stahelski Working on the Ghost of Tsushima Adaptation
There was news of a movie adaptation of one of the biggest PlayStation Exclusives, God of War, as many celebrities were also linked to taking over the character of Kratos. All that talk fell silent as there were no official announcements from anybody in the industry. Now, Chad Stahelski is working on his “biggest passion project” which is a movie adaptation of another epic PlayStation exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Tsushima is a 2020 action-adventure that was developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony, as a PlayStation exclusive and had received multiple recognitions.
Ghost of Tsushima was nominated for several awards in 2021 and won two awards for Visual Effects among other awards. A film adaptation of the game was announced last year, and Stahelski is trying to bring an Asian ensemble cast for the movie. His plan is not to make a movie that’s entirely in English as he wishes to have the movie as close to the Japanese mythology as it’s shown in the game. The project has still not kicked off, just like his Rainbow Six adaption which is also yet to take off.
All About Ghost of Tsushima, 2020 Action-Adventure PlayStation Exclusive Game
Ghost of Tsushima is a massive, open-world game that takes players through several locations on the island of Tsushima. The game centers around the character of Jin Sakai, a former samurai, who is also known as the Ghost. The game is set in the year 1274 on the island of Tsushima, and follows Jin Sakai, the last samurai, as he masters a new fighting style – the way of the Ghost. His intention is said to be Japan’s independence after he defeats the Mongol forces.
Ghost of Tsushima covers a lot of Japanese mythology, but Stahelski’s take on the game is that it transcends beyond a single nationality. He is trying to bring as many of the game’s aspects to the big screen while also staying true to the game’s core aspects of the Japanese tradition and the ways of the samurai. As there is no news on the live-action adaptation yet, once the movie kicks off there will be quite a lot to learn about the cast and other details.
