Coming to her first major Hollywood blockbuster Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, was a whole different ball game for actress Jodie Comer, who was previously known for her work in Killing Eve. But despite the challenges of entering a whole new chapter of her career, she didn’t fail to live up to the expectations and delivered a sublime performance in the role of Molotov Girl/Millie.
But among all the challenges that arrived her way during the film’s production, one of the hardest things for the actress was hating the film’s villain, played by acclaimed director Taika Waititi.
Jodie Comer found it hard hating Taika Waititi’s villain in Free Guy
One of the factors that makes a movie great is its villain and in Free Guy‘s case, it might be one of its best aspects. Despite having some top names in the mix, Taika Waititi‘s Antwan stoles the scene he is in, as he doesn’t fail to make the character as flamboyant and over the top as possible. And considering how well his character was written in the film, despite being a greedy mogul behind Free City, Jodie Comer found it hard to bring herself down to hate Taika Waititi’s character in the film.
But it wasn’t only Jodie Comer, who was astonished by the Thor: Love and Thunder director’s brilliance in the role, as Ryan Reynolds has something similar to say about the director.
Ryan Reynolds was fascinated by Taika Waititi’s performance in Free Guy
Apart from being an amazing filmmaker, Taika Waititi hasn’t failed to establish himself as an accomplished performer in front of the lens and has delivered several exceptional performances. And Waititi’s portrayal of Antwan is another confirmation of the director’s skill as an actor and both Shawn Levy, director of the film, and Reynolds, who plays Guy, expressed their fascination with him. Just like Tony Award Winner Jodie Comer, the Deadpool star shares a similar perspective about his Free Guy costar, as he commends Taika Waititi for his work. The actor stated,
“Taika is just a beast. Continuing further about Taika Waititi, he added, “We could literally have cut an entire film of just his outtakes, of just the stuff we didn’t use. He is a legend in every moment. The stuff he does and the way his mind works and how quick and reflexive he is, it’s just unreal.”
But despite Waititi’s incredible portrayal of the villain, Reynolds, and Comer don’t fall under his shadow, as together they succeeded in crafting the critically and commercially successful Free Guy.
Free Guy is available to stream on Disney Plus.
