Hardy’s Venom role was successful, with the first movie of the franchise grossing over $800 million at the box office, while the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage crossed the $500 million mark. But it appears Hardy’s one favorite role was not the antihero Venom, rather it belongs to a different franchise.

Tom Hardy joined George Miller’s celebrated franchise Mad Max in the 2015 movie, Mad Max: Fury Road. Set in a dystopian future, the action-adventure movie has grossed over $415.2 million at the global box office against a production budget of $154.6–185.1 million. Aside from commercial success, the movie has received positive response from the critics. Further, the movie won six Oscars while it was nominated for 10 in different categories.

Hardy was quite serious about the role, so he went to Mel Gibson, who was the star of earlier movies of the franchise playing Max, to discuss the character. But the Legend actor said that Gibson was not too enthusiastic about meeting him. “I met Mel. I needed to meet Mel purely from a young man’s perspective,” Hardy told Details Magazine.

“I wanted to touch base with the previous Max and just say hello. And is it okay? Because I’m taking on Max, I have to meet Max. It’s awkward. You’re Mad Max. I’m Tommy Hardy, and I’m playing him.”

Apparently , the Braveheart actor seemed a little bored while discussing the character with Hardy. “He was bored with me,” Hardy said.

“All right, buddy, good luck with that.” Bless him. I made him a bracelet. And then we talked for a couple of hours about all kinds of stuff.”

However, Gibson did give blessings to Hardy and watched the movie as well.

Hardy is the future of the Mad Max franchise. His debut in the 2015 movie alongside Charlize Theron’s character Furiosa has created quite an impact on the viewers with action-packed sequences and thrills. Mad Max: Fury Road was indeed an intense and wild ride in a dystopian mayhem. But it was real, or at least, Hardy would like to think so. The actor also said that Mad Max is the “coolest superhero.”

“Mad Max is, like, the coolest superhero that a boy could get. ’Cause there’s no cape, there’s no rubber suit. There’s no flying. Nothing really hurts Batman or Superman. Everything hurts in Mad Max. Remember Indiana Jones when he hated snakes? He was scared.”

Hardy, being the future of the franchise, is set to appear in the later installments. Hardy’s Max Rockatansky has several adventures in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The makers of the film have already announced a sequel Mad Max: The Wasteland, and prequel Furiosa.

There is a solid future for the franchise, and Miller- Hardy chemistry worked in Mad Max: Fury Road, and the upcoming movies are likely to be successful entries in the series.
