Sometimes when things get massively out of hand, you have to simply perform a reset and start all over again, from scratch. That’s the direction that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have sought out for the ever-expanding superhero franchise of the DC Universe since Zack Snyder’s departure (among many other removals).
Gunn and Safran have picked out a completely new path for the DCU. All it required was the removal of fan-favorite actors like Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill from the superhero franchise (Zack Snyder is a whole different case). But Snyder fans aren’t too keen on the new plan, and they’ve taken a massive stand against it.
Zack Snyder’s Fans Take A Stand Against The DCU
Zack Snyder, possibly one of the most well-known names in the superhero movie industry, was in many ways the person who took the decisions that would guide the DCU to where it is today. His vision for a much more abrasive and mature portrayal of the DC characters in movies was what drew many to his movies.
Slow motion shots, a gritty look into the past and present of characters, and so on are the many trademarks of the Rebel Moon director. But given the commercial potential of superhero franchises, a depressing tone for superhero movies was not what the higher-ups at Warner Bros. and DC Studios wanted.
The 56-year-old was slowly phased out of being a big decision-maker of the DCU to simply not being in consideration for a directorial role for any of the franchise’s future projects. Snyder was shown no love even with the new leadership of the DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran, who ironically even kicked the director’s Man of Steel star Henry Cavill out of the equation.
Fans of Zack Snyder are obviously upset by all of this, and they’ve made themselves heard on Twitter-
In full agreement-
That’s right! –
Louder! –
Shazam! Fury of the Gods catching strays-
They even have stats! –
Would the DCU be better off under the leadership of Zack Snyder or does it stand a better chance of reviving itself under the vision of James Gunn and Peter Safran?
Kingsman Director Not Too Fond Of Zack Snyder’s Decision For DCU Movie
The one major point of criticism that the higher-ups at Warner Bros. and DC Studios had about Zack Snyder’s vision for the DCU was that the tone of the franchise was too serious and gritty. While fans of the director would be inclined to debate about it, many others felt the same way.
The director of the Kingsman movie series, Matthew Vaughn is somewhere along the same line of criticism, arguing that Snyder made one major mistake in the franchise.
During an interview with The Wrap, Vaughn said that he feels the Dawn of the Dead director’s decision to put Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman in one movie, i.e Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was a mistake-
“I just thought it was a mistake putting the Batman vibe into the Superman world. I just think they’re two separate, they’re just not relatable in any way, in my mind. It should be fun.”
To be fair to Vaughn, a superhero movie is no fun if it’s all gloomy and dark. But Zack Snyder’s fans have a love for such movies, and Vaughn’s words aren’t going to make them shift their alliance.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is available for streaming on Netflix.
