The Expendables was released on 13 August 2010. In the movie with Sylvester Stallone other big names were also part of the star cast. Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, and Jet Li. People were excited to watch these famous action heroes in one film and that excitement pulled fans to the theatre right after the release of the movie. Reportedly, the action and adventure movie earned $35 million at the American box office on the first weekend after its release. The Rocky Balboa actor made history by starring in films that debuted at the top of the box office rankings for five decades in a row. In fact, he is the only actor to have ever done that.

After the first installment of The Expendables, the second part was released on 24 August 2012. Once again the star cast created their magic on screen and became one of the highest-grossing films. The third installment of the film suffered a setback as it was allegedly leaked before its release. The Expendables 3 also received some negative reviews, which contributed to the film’s poor box office performance.

As an actor Sly also enjoys watching other artists on the big screen. The First Blood actor is a movie enthusiast and loves to watch many movies. During an interview, the actor was asked about what inspired him to hire a relative unknown to take over the Expendables franchise as director. While responding to this question Stallone said,

“ I watch a lot of movies and screeners, probably 300-400 films a year, and I can recall four that really stick in the mind. I was like, “what is this Red Hill?” and that’s a good sign because it’s somehow gotten into your cortex and resonates. When I found out how he did it – what was it, 18 days, for less than $500,000 in freezing weather – I said, “imagine what this guy could do with some big paintbrushes.”

He further added

“And then he flew all the way up from Australia, we talked for about 30 minutes, and then he flew all the way back. Then he flew back again about three days later, so he’s hungry. He’s been over here prepping for months and months and months, which I didn’t do, so that kind of crazy dedication. Plus, he’s a real film scholar, he studies it and is really immersed in it.”
