Among the fresh faces joining Marvel is Tatiana Maslany, who debuted in the franchise with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Even after excelling in her craft, securing a role within the MCU was no simple feat. Previously, during an interview, the actress revealed that to ensure her place in the Marvel franchise, Maslany auditioned for numerous roles apart from that of She-Hulk.
Tatiana Maslany’s Audition Journey in the MCU
Tatiana Maslany made her Marvel debut in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. In the show, she portrayed the titular character, Jennifer Walters, a.k.a. She-Hulk. Maslany excelled in her performance, fitting perfectly into the role. However, acing a role in the Marvel franchise was not an easy task, as the actress herself admitted that she was rejected by the MCU multiple times.
During an appearance on Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang Bang podcast, the actress revealed that she had tried out for a role in Venom before auditioning for She-Hulk. When the actress was asked about the particular role she auditioned for in the film, she revealed that she auditioned for the role of Venom’s girlfriend. Maslany said,
“Not for Venom, unfortunately. But for Venom’s girlfriend or whatever.”
Perhaps Maslany auditioned for the role of Eddie Brock’s love interest, Anne Weying. The role eventually went to Michelle Williams. The actress didn’t mention the other roles she auditioned for. However, the actress claimed that she was content with whatever was planned for her destiny.
All about She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law made its debut on August 18, 2022. This miniseries, adapted from Marvel Comics, centers around the character She-Hulk. Also known as Jennifer Walters, she is the cousin of Bruce Banner, the Hulk. Much like her cousin, she possesses superhuman strength. However, unlike him, she can control her emotions even when transformed.
Comprising eight episodes, the She-Hulk series follows Walters on her journey as she engages in legal cases intertwined with her superpowers. The show’s first season saw decent success, and Tatiana Maslany’s performance was well acclaimed by critics.
The series delves into Jennifer Walters’ dual identity as both a lawyer and a superhero, offering viewers an intriguing blend of legal drama and superhero action. The series can be streamed on Disney +.
