Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Oppenheimer, has become one of the biggest releases of 2023. Not only the movie has crossed the mark of $400 million at the box office, but considering its performance, IMAX has also decided to extend its run by a week. Along with the audience and critics, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone has also praised the director and the cast of the film for their work, as he revealed that he was also approached to direct the movie.

Oliver Stone Turned Down Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer 

Based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s 2005 biography, American Prometheus, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer follows the life of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Starring Hollywood stars, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt among others, the movie has been received very well by critics and audiences as well.

And the legendary filmmaker, Oliver Stone, has also shared his honest views about the 2023 film. The director took to Twitter to reveal that he was also approached for the project, but he turned down the offer because he “couldn’t find [his] way to its essence.”

However, Stone claimed that Nolan was able to do what he could not, as he called his direction “mind-boggling & eye-popping.” He also shared that he was fascinated by the Inception director’s narrative as he sat through the three-hour-long movie, stating that “Nolan has found it.” Along with Nolan, the Platoon director praised the cast of the film as well.

Oliver Stone Surprised With Cillian Murphy’s Performance

Oliver Stone is not only impressed with Christopher Nolan’s narrative in Oppenheimer, but he has also shared the same praise for the cast of the film. He shared his review of the film in a Twitter thread and stated that every actor in the movie surprised him with their performance.

But he was especially surprised with the Peaky Blinders star. “Especially Cillian Murphy, whose exaggerated eyes here feel normal playing a genius like #Oppenheimer,” he said in one of his tweets. Stone also called the movie a “classic,” saying that he never believed anything like that could be made in “this climate.”

As the prolific director shared his honest thoughts about the movie, people are appreciating Stone praising Nolan’s work with J. Robert Oppenheimer’s story. Before Stone, screenwriter Paul Schrader also applauded the movie as he called it “the best, most important film of this century.”

Oppenheimer is playing in theatres.
