Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart experienced a different kind of fame when they landed their respective roles in the Stephenie Meyer film adaptation. The Twihards, or the die-hard fans of the franchise, were so obsessed with the pair, leaving the stars no other option but to follow the trend.
Being a celebrity is difficult, especially for Stewart who has been in the industry since she was a child. The attention and fame did not get any easier as she progressed into more mature roles. The actress even felt more overwhelmed because of the pressure from the fans.
Kristen Stewart Reacts To Studio Wanting Her To Smile More
In her interview with Salon, Charlie’s Angels star Kristen Stewart admitted that she has never been comfortable with the limelight, but assured her fans that she loves her job as an actress. She said:
“I have not always been completely comfortable being shoved into the brightest, most blinding spotlight you can imagine. That was always tough, but on the other side of it, what I do, I love that.”
The way Stewart showed herself in public gave everyone the impression that she did not care whatever people thought of her. She was quick to refute this idea and claimed that she actually cares what fans think of her. The actress added:
“I’m like, actually, ‘No one gives a f—k like me. No one gives more of a f—k than me.’ It’s just ironic to me. I’m always like, ‘Really?’”
Because of how Stewart and her then-boyfriend Robert Pattinson carried themselves in public, the studio had taken notice of their appearances and suggested that they should be more cheerful-looking when facing the media. She told Vanity Fair (via Access Online):
“We wanted it to be not so polished. Catherine [Hardwicke, the first film’s director], was all for that. But we were getting notes from the studio. They wanted me to smile all the time. They wanted Rob to be not so brooding. We were like, ‘No! You need to brood you’re as* off.’”
Pattinson also defended Stewart and said that the tabloid magazines are sometimes at fault for this. He argued:
“No matter how many times she smiles, they’ll put in the one picture where she’s not smiling.”
Being a celebrity and standing in front of the camera all day long is quite a tough job! Nothing is more exhausting than flashing up a smile when one is genuinely uncomfortable with all the blinding lights and attention.
Kristen Stewart Wants To Stay Genuine As Much As Possible
In the same interview with Vanity Fair via Access Online, Kristen Stewart shared her reflection and the reason why she does not aim to look perfect on camera. The Snow White and the Huntsman star explained:
“I have been criticized a lot for not looking perfect in every photograph. I get some serious s—t about it. I’m not embarrassed about it. I’m proud of it. If I took perfect pictures all the time, the people standing in the room with me, or on the carpet, would think, What an actress! What a faker! That thought embarrasses me so much that I look like s—t in half my photos, and I don’t give a f—k.”
For Stewart, the important thing is that people would know that she was happy with her job and she was honest with her responses in interviews. She concluded:
“What matters to me is that the people in the room leave and say, ‘She was cool. She had a good time. She was honest.’ I don’t care about the voracious, starving s—t eaters who want to turn truth into s—t.”
Indeed, Kristen Stewart just wanted to be as authentic as possible, whether she’s in front of the camera or away from it.
