Sofia Vergara’s Accidental Introduction to the Showbiz Industry
Sofia Vergara has forged her career as an actor and television personality but the very beginning, in fact, her introduction to the showbiz world has been an accident. Speaking to CBS, the actor once revealed that Vergara was relaxing at a beach when she was 17 and a casting agent found her to be fitting for a Pepsi commercial. “Yeah, I was with my family, like, at the beach and some casting agent saw me and said, ‘We’re doing this commercial, do you want to do it?'” she told CBS. Her mother approved of the idea but Vergara was scared as her Catholic school teachers would never allow her in a television commercial wearing a bikini.
“I’m like, ‘No, the nuns are gonna kill me, I can’t be in a bathing suit on a commercial!’ They’re not gonna let me do it. They’re gonna throw me out of school.”
Eventually, Vergara agreed to do the commercial and it worked in her favor as the commercial was aired only after her graduation from the catholic school. Still, she was far from being a model or an actor, Vergara almost became a doctor.
Sofia Vergara was Almost a Dentist
The Modern Family fame actor set out to be a dentist and that was her rigid career path. The Colombian actor studied for two years in a medical school to be a dentist. Speaking to Harry Connick Jr. on his talk show the Chef actor revealed her earlier career choice.
“I wanted to be a doctor but 4 years ago in Colombia that wasn’t an option because you were thinking about getting married, having kids, and being a doctor takes so much time and years of studying. It’s difficult. The next best thing at that time for me was to be a dentist. So I went to dentist school. But I didn’t finish,” Vergara told Connick Jr.
A medical school degree requires years of study and Vergara felt that it would gobble up years, so, she ventured into the world of entertainment. However, the trait of her being almost a dentist is instilled in her even today. Talking to People once, the actor revealed that she is obsessed with her smile and dental hygiene and she enforced the same onto her son as well. Vergara is one of the most successful celebrities even today after her reign as the TV’s highest-paid female actor for seven years. Vergara is set to appear on the Netflix miniseries Griselda. Based on the life of notorious cocaine trafficker Griselda Blanco, the crime series will premiere on Netflix in the fall of 2023.
