"No I can't beat him he will sue me": Jackie Chan Was Utterly Disappointed With How His Son Behaved Around Him, Blamed Western Culture For Ruining the Kids

Jackie Chan has created some of the best action comedies for kids. The Karate Kid actor began his career as a stuntman, having trained in martial arts, and he is famously known for performing his own stunts in movies. As a martial artist, the Police Story actor places a high value on discipline, crediting his Asian upbringing for his disciplined life.

Jackie Chan appeared on an episode of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and discussed various aspects of his professional life. During the interview, the host wanted to know whether Chan’s rigorous training at a young age had been tough for him. The Drunken Master actor explained that becoming great at what you do often requires going through such stages in life.

Chan went on to recount how his teacher used to hit him for no reason, and he shared that this tough treatment made him stronger in life. The Foreigner actor further revealed that children today lack respect for their teachers and might even sue them if a teacher were to hit them. When the host asked whether teachers hitting the children was good, The Spy Next Door actor stated that he, in fact, believed that such punishments were necessary to toughen the children for life.

However, the Kung Fu Panda voice actor also acknowledged that Western culture does not endorse such treatment of children, but stated that it was part of his traditional culture. Chan added that this approach made him and his friends pretty disciplined in life.

Jackie Chan discussed his personal habits of keeping his belongings organized, mentioning that once he returns home or to a hotel room after a shoot, he makes sure to tidy up his shoes and wardrobe. However, citing the example of his son, Jaycee Chan, the Shanghai Knights actor revealed how his son tends to leave his shoes all over the place and generally shows little interest in tidying up his things.

Chan went on to describe how he was very respectful of his father, standing up from his seat and offering to get tea for him. However, The Myth actor felt that his son did not hold the same level of respect for him, as his son only greeted him with a casual “Hey Dad, how are ya?”. When the host asked if he would hit his son, Chan quickly replied that his son would sue him if he ever did that, considering he was raised in America. The Armour of God actor shared:

“I can go home put my shoes like this. I take off my clothes, I can fold them. Even in the hotel, if I mess something I would clean it up. But my son okay… I never see the shoes put like this. One on the floor one in the dining room. Wearing the white shoes running around because he doesn’t wash his own shoes or socks. […] No, I can’t [beat him], he will sue me!”

Jackie Chan is not always popular for his ideologies, and some may find them regressive.
