The extremely gorgeous ex-wife of Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman was once called a homewrecker. Following her appearance in the 2002 Civil War drama, Cold Mountain, with Jude Law, it was implied that Kidman had an affair with her co-star that apparently brought trouble to Law’s marriage.
Nicole Kidman thus wasted no time in hiring a lawyer and dragging the issue to the court. Claiming how it was just steamy on-screen chemistry while filming the historical romance, the actress sued for libel and wanted to settle things after it was rumored that she ruined Jude Law’s marriage with an alleged affair.
Nicole Kidman And Jude Law Sparked Romance Rumors
Ever since Nicole Kidman’s divorce from Tom Cruise, the actress has worked on several critically acclaimed projects and earned high praise and accolades. Further, she starred alongside Jude Law in their 2002 Civil War drama, Cold Mountain. However, sharing the screen in the historical romance, while portraying steamy onscreen chemistry, the pair faced alleged affair allegations.
Since Nicole Kidman is known for keeping her life private, it was believed that the actress was having an alleged affair with Jude Law following their 2002 movie. This notorious headline affected the actor’s marriage and family life. According to The Guardian, DailyMail alleged that the actress “had led Law to cheat on his wife, causing the breakdown of his marriage,”.
Despite Kidman addressing the rumors and debunking them as fake news, “The article also claimed the actress’s repeated denials of the alleged affair were dishonest”. Further, several other notable publications alleged that Kidman and Law had been intimate in real life, which caused trouble to the actor’s marriage.
This left no choice for Nicole Kidman but to brace up and take the issue to court.
Nicole Kidman Sued For Libel After Facing Allegations
When the articles and rumors started spreading like wildfire, which apparently affected both the actors as well as Jude Law‘s family, Nicole Kidman decided to sue for libel. Wasting no further time, the actress decided to stop the rumors once and for all, even if it meant taking legal action. Being hellbent, the Nine Perfect Strangers actress sued The Sun and DailyMail.
Solicitor Keith Schilling spoke about the articles published by The Sun and DailyMail. According to the Irish Examiner, he stated,
“The article implied that the claimant (Kidman) had led Jude Law to cheat on his wife Sadie Frost, and by her behavior caused the breakdown of their marriage.”
He further added how the article caused damage to the actress’ reputation and led her to “considerable embarrassment and distress.”
Thus, eventually, Nicole Kidman was able to prove there was no truth in the rumors and won the lawsuit. According to The Guardian, The Sun and DailyMail were called “to publish an apology, and pay the claimant a sum in damages and her legal costs”. The news outlets were also asked to never repeat publishing such damaging allegations against Kidman.
