After seven years of the Nintendo Switch, it seems that we may finally be getting a brand new Nintendo console. A new report suggests that the console will release in 2024, and it’s thrown Nintendo fans into a frenzy. It seems that the time for Next-Gen Nintendo hardware and games is finally upon us.
The Nintendo Switch has kept gamers engaged ever since its release in March 2017. With right-out-of the gate masterpieces like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it’s easy to see why this console is loved and cherished by millions. Alas, it’s time has come, and the time for a possible Switch 2 is here.

When will the New Nintendo Console Release?
The new Nintendo Console is set to release in the second half of 2024. According to VGC, sources claim that Nintendo is trying to ensure that they don’t face shortages in the gaming console market similar to the ones faced by the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This gave rise to an incredibly large number of scalpers, and it makes sense as to why Nintendo would want to avoid facing the same issue.
Development kits are apparently being sent out to partner studios to prepare for the release. After all, a console is only as good as the games it offers. This means that the new Nintendo console will have a good launch lineup, similar to that of the Nintendo Switch.
Previously, Nintendo said that the new console wouldn’t release until April 2024 at the earliest. Every passing year, the Switch has a decline in sales, but Nintendo seems confident that they can hold out until the release of the new Nintendo console.

Hardware and Backwards Compatibility
Sources claim that the new Nintendo console could launch with only an LCD model and not an OLED model. This could be done to bring down the costs of manufacturing, as it seems that Nintendo is focusing on increasing storage for the new console. Next-Gen games are demanding more and more space, so this could be for the best. However, there is a high chance that Nintendo will release an OLED model in the future, similar to how they did it with the Nintendo Switch.
Similar to the Switch, the new Nintendo console will feature compatibility for digital games as well as physical cartridges. But backwards compatibility isn’t as simple. Nintendo wants to convert as many people as possible to the new console. But according to third-party publishers, having backwards compatibility could lead to lower sales of newer games.
The new console can also be used in portable mode similar to the Nintendo Switch. It seems that the new console is finally in reach. Hopefully we’ll get an official word from Nintendo itself soon.
