Netflix has unveiled a new glimpse of their upcoming live-action series based on Image Comics’ American Jesus trilogy of graphic novels. Mark Millar (famous for his work on Kick-Ass and Jupiter’s Legacy) and artist Peter Gross (known for The Books of Magic and Lucifer) have collaborated to create The Chosen One (also known as El Elegido in Spanish).
The show, set in Baja California, Mexico, follows the protagonist Jodie, who discovers he is the new Jesus Christ and must confront the Antichrist during the Apocalypse. Millar noted that relocating the story to Mexico adds a level of authenticity to the mythology and heightens the sense of impending doom. Mark Millar also shared the teaser poster on his Twitter handle.
Introducing The Chosen One on Netflix

The Chosen One is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year and will be available to audiences in both English and Spanish. This multilingual approach is a testament to the show’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity, which is sure to attract a broader audience.
The series promises to be a visually stunning, thought-provoking, and entertaining adaptation of Millar’s American Jesus trilogy, and fans cannot wait to see how the story unfolds on screen.
The Theme of The Chosen One
Millar has noted that The Chosen One will not be a straightforward adaptation of the comics. Instead, he and his team plan to expand the mythology of American Jesus, creating something that will appeal to both fans of the comic and new viewers alike. The show is sure to be a hit, and with Millar’s talent behind it, there’s no doubt that The Chosen One will be one of the most exciting shows of the year.
The Chosen One is based on Mark Millar’s American Jesus trilogy, originally published by Image Comics. The trilogy consists of three volumes: Chosen, The New Messiah, and Revelation, each containing three issues.
Millar has stated that the show will be a reinvention of the comics, with plenty of surprises in store. It will feature new characters and storylines that viewers won’t expect and will be much more expansive in scope. The show will also include some of the original characters from the comics, but with a new twist – for example, Jodie’s bullies will be much more than just comic relief.
The show promises to explore themes of faith, identity, and power uniquely, and will no doubt be a hit with fans of Millar’s work.
Canceled Jupiter’s Legacy
Fans of the Jupiter Legacy comic book series, which was released as an ongoing series by Image Comics in May 2020, were devastated to learn that the series had been canceled after only eight issues. The series, written by Mark Millar and drawn by Frank Quitely, was a sequel to Millar’s previous work on The Authority and Superman: Red Son.
The series was critically acclaimed and had a strong fan base, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep it going. It seems that the lack of sales was the reason for its cancellation and has left many disappointed.
For those who were invested in the series, the news was a huge letdown as they won’t be able to see how the story would have developed. It’s a shame that such a promising series was unable to make it and those who were looking forward to it will have to settle for the few issues that were released. Hopefully, this cancellation won’t deter Millar and Quitely from creating something new in the future as their work together remains highly regarded.
