Henry Cavill’s run as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher has finally come to an end with season 3’s finale. Over the years, it has been an absolute joy to witness the actor’s journey as the White Wolf as he raised the bar with every season. The next season will have actor Liam Hemsworth taking over the character.
In Henry Cavill’s final scene for the series, Geralt was seen riding off on his horse along with two other characters. While the moment can almost be considered poetic, signifying Henry Cavill’s exit from the show, reports state that the scene was actually supposed to be a little different than what was shown to the fans.
Henry Cavill’s Final Scene in The Witcher Changed?
Henry Cavill was last seen riding his horse into the distance along with Jaskier (Joey Batey) and Milva (Meng’er Zhang). This happened after they fought and slaughtered some Nilfgaardian soldiers. However, according to the trusted website Redanian Intelligence, the scene had one more moment in it initially which was removed from the final cut.
The website writes, “We heard that one of the final scenes of the season was ‘Milva helping Geralt in need, while Cahir was watching them from afar.’” According to the website’s report, the scene would have indicated that Cahir (Eamon Farren) would be following the three men. However, nothing of the sort happened and fans didn’t even see Cahir again after Thanedd.
If the reports are true, what made the creators make last-minute changes to the scene? According to the website, the reason behind the alteration could be the fact that the scene was a bit too similar to the ending of Michelle Yeoh’s The Witcher: Blood Origin where Avallac’h was seen following Ciri in the distance. The miniseries has a low Rotten Tomatoes score of just 30%. On the other hand, perhaps they decided to stick to Cahir becoming a captive of the elves.
Do you think the creators should have left the alleged ambiguous scene in the final cut?
Henry Cavill Powered His Way Through His Final Scenes
If you thought Cavill wouldn’t be as committed to the role in season 3 as he was in the first two, you couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, the actor was an absolute beast when it came to filming his last few scenes in The Witcher.
In an interview with Dexerto, Batey recalled how despite being unwell during the shoot, Cavill did not lose energy and gave the role his absolute best.
“I was there on Henry’s last day and watched him power his was through a fight scene. I think he had a cold at the time actually; I think he was quite unwell, and yet just threw himself into his final days and hours as the day got longer and longer and longer and [there was] not a single drop in his energy and his commitment.”
Batey added that Cavill’s drive “to do his best in those final those” was like a “special memory” for him. There is no shortage of stories when it comes to Cavill’s professionalism and yet, we seem to be more and more in awe of his behaviors on set.
The Witcher season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
