In a 1998 interview with the Tampa Bay TimesAmerica’s sweetheart, Sandra Bullock talked about her acting career which was still flourishing as it stands strong today.

From making her acting debut in 1987’s Hangmen, her career started to reach immense heights with 1994’s Speed. From then on, she never stopped as that movie led her to get leading roles in successful projects like While You Were Sleeping and A Time to Kill.

With a steady growth in her acting career, she began her producer profession by launching her own production company, Fortis Films, in 1995. In the interview, she talked about slowing down her acting career to focus majorly on her production business.

“I’ve done everything I want to do. I have nothing else to say as an actor. I’m not going to act for a year except for cameos in films I’m producing.”

She continued in the same interview,

“I’m still in the race. I’m still in the business, but I’m doing the other side that I love to do, which is the production end.” She further asserted, “I believe more in the things that I’m producing right now than in anything I can possibly do on-screen, and my work will be better if I leave.”

While her acting break was hazy at the time, taking on fewer acting projects would, in turn, boost her efforts in her production career. Though she continued to appear in several movies, it only happened as she was getting serious about her production work which she loved to do.

Bullock has always been candid about her career choices and expressed about taking a break several times in last year’s interview. During her The Hollywood Reporter interview, she mentioned taking a step back from both her careers to focus on her personal life.

“I don’t want to be beholden to anyone’s schedule other than my own,” she shared. “I’m so burnt out. I’m so tired, and I’m so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it.” She won’t say how long this break might last. “I really don’t know.”

Talking about her career, she shared,

Work has always been steady for me, and I’ve been so lucky. I realized it possibly was becoming my crutch. It was like opening up a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge. I said to myself, ‘Stop looking for it here because it doesn’t exist here. You already have it; establish it, find it and be OK not having work to validate you.’”

Despite her successful career, she was unable to seek assurance from her work, leaving her unsatisfied. However, spending her time with her loved ones is also a major factor in her decision.
