The trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released earlier this week. While the trailer received a pretty well reaction, some fans pointed out something that caused the comic-book writer Dan Slott to clarify the situation. The trailer for Across the Spider-Verse includes a sequence showing multiple Spider-Men as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy continue their adventure into the multiverse. However, fans spotted two versions of Spider-Men that they did not seem too happy with.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s adventures through the multiverse where they meet more versions of Spider-Man.
Dan Slott Defends the Married Peter Parker
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer showcased multiple versions of Spider-Man, from Lady Spider to the Playstation’s Spider-Man. The trailer also shows a quick glimpse at Spinneret and Spiderling.
Both of these characters are from Earth-18119, where Peter Parker is happily married to his love interest Mary Jane and also has a daughter called Annie Parker. After their marriage, Mary Jane and Annie Parker also gain Spider-Man powers and join Peter Parker’s crime-fighting activities as Spinneret and Spiderling.
The characters were first introduced in 2015’s limited series Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows by Dan Slott and continued to be a part of the Spider-Verse in comics. However, fans were not so thrilled with the presence of the married Spider-Man in the trailer.
This led Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows’ creator, Dan Slott, to come to the married Parker’s defense. Slott shared a tweet replying to all the hate comments against Spinneret and Spiderling.
Dan Slott said, “Have seen multiple comments today about how I must somehow be upset because a married Peter Parker in Across the Spider-Verse.” Further adding, the comic book writer said, “My eyes cannot roll hard enough. You guys know I wrote these, right?” Dan Slott then mentioned that he loves every version of Spider-Man, doesn’t matter if he’s married or not.
Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy Take on Spider-People
The trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released earlier this week and has a lot for the fans. The first trailer shows that Miles goes on through the Spider-Verse with Spider-Gwen. As the trailer continues, it shows different versions of Spider-Men.
A sequence also shows the interdimensional space of the Spider-Verse, which is also made out of Spider-Web. The trailer further shows Miles Morales getting attacked by different versions of Spider-Man, including Miguel O’Hara.
Other Spider-Men also follow O’Hara into attacking Miles Morales. Reports followed by the trailer release have revealed that Spot will be the villain for Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Unlike the first film, Miles would be the one traveling throughout the Spider-Verse with Spider-Gwen. Although the trailer shows Spider-Man 2099 taking on Miles Morales, they are expected to team up with different Spider-Men in the sequel.
While Spot’s particular motives are still unclear, it is believed that the supervillain did something to Miguel O’Hara’s world, leading him to gather Spider-Men from different universes to defeat him.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release on June 2, 2023.
