Kate Beckinsale is truly a diva. The Total Recall star has stunned many people, not just with her beauty but also with her wit. How can anyone ignore how genius she was for coming up with (her) chocolate buttocks prank? Who wouldn’t like having a person like her on board? But that was not the reason that she was cast in a particular Michael Bay film. The Transformers director had a peculiar reason behind casting the Van Helsing star, and she couldn’t be more anguished.
Why Kate Beckinsale would regret starring in Pearl Harbor
Kate Beckinsale had the opportunity of working with Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett in Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor. The 2001 film had great numbers, earning $450 million against a budget of $140 million. It was the fruit of the ensemble’s efforts.
Yet Kate Beckinsale would regret being a part of the movie. Courtesy of Michael Bay’s antics. The Armageddon director had a rather surprising reason behind choosing the Underworld star for the role of Lt. Evelyn, a reason that didn’t go down well with her.
Kate Beckinsale was the ‘right’ actor for Michael Bay
In an episode of The Graham Norton Show, Kate Beckinsale relived the horror of promoting Pearl Harbor with Michael Bay. The 58-year-old made the tours a disaster for her. The Trials of Cate McCall star said,
“I don’t think I fitted the type of actress Michael Bay the director had met before. I think he was baffled by me because my b—bs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blonde.”
That was just the tip of the iceberg though.
Kate Beckinsale had enough of Michael Bay while promoting Pearl Harbor
Michael Bay was not in the mood to let this one slide. Kate Beckinsale had to bear listening to this wherever she went. The Vacancy star continued,
“And then, when we were promoting the film. Michael was asked why he had chosen Ben [Affleck] and Josh [Hartnett], and he said, ‘I have worked with Ben before and I love him, and Josh is so manly and a wonderful actor’. Then when he was asked about me, he’d say, ‘Kate wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience’. He kept saying it everywhere we went.”
Michael Bay’s thoughts about women merit such reactions. He once went on record to say, “I didn’t want someone who was too beautiful. Women feel disturbed when they see someone’s too pretty.”
Kudos to Beckinsale for managing to keep her calm in front of the crowd.
