What Could The Removal Of The Cross-Play Category Mean For Mortal Kombat 1?
With recent game releases, it has become commonplace to see cross-play within games. When it is not available within a game, it comes as quite a shock to the community, as many are left wondering how this could impact the way the game plays, especially when players move towards the multiplayer aspect of the game as it limits how many people will be available to battle and could also affect wait times.
When it comes to gaming, cross-play has become a pretty efficient tool for the industry as it allows the player base to spread out and include more people. Still, for a game like Mortal Kombat, it can be pretty important to ensure that players have options regarding opponents, unfortunately the player base doesn’t tend to be as active on PC as it would for console, which means that if there is no cross-play many PC gamers would struggle to find opponents.
Due to this change on Steam, this could cause an even larger lack of players on PC as many would rather purchase the game on a console, which can cause even more issues as many players will be put off by this change and may even cause an issue on consoles. It must be noted that on the Mortal Kombat 1 website, where it used to say cross-play enabled, it has now been changed to “info coming soon“, which can give players hope it may just be a delayed feature.

Could This Feature Still Appear In The Future Of Mortal Kombat 1?
At the moment, there is no certain answer as to whether or not players will be receiving cross-play in the future of Mortal Kombat 1. Due to the change on the website stating, “info coming soon” it is a good indicator that it isn’t a feature that will be gone forever there may just be a slight issue with the way it works currently and may need fixing.
With this feature being potentially removed, it could cause many complaints from the fan base of Mortal Kombat 1. If it does, this could help NetherRealm Studios to speed up the process and bring back this desired feature if they have any intention at all, but since it made it so far with the feature being advertised, it is unlikely this feature is gone forever.
So far, there has been no statement made by Ed Boon or NetherRealm Studios explaining this change to Mortal Kombat 1, but with so many fans noticing the change, that is likely to change very soon.
