The release of Mortal Kombat 1 is getting ever closer. And with it is comes some exciting news on character backstories. We already know that MK1 will be a complete re-boot of the franchise and with it, we now have new information on some well known characters which may surprise you!
Whilst there are only nine character bios available on the official website so far, it may be the entries for Scorpion and Sub-Zero which raise a few eye-brows!
According to the character bios we can see that Scorpion is no longer a warrior of the Shirai Ryu but is now in fact a member of the Lin Kuei. Now if that doesn’t make you sit up and take notice then you may be surprised to learn that he and Sub-Zero are now brothers!

Players will be interested to know that Scorpion is now a revered warrior of the Lin Kuei and like his late father, he is devout in his defence of the Earthrealm. Though he is proud that Sub-Zero took over the role of Grandmaster, Scorpion is less than enthused that he is moving away from the Lin Kuei’s traditional duties. And he fears this could lead him to battle his brother for control of the Lin Kuei.
After the passing of his father, Sub-Zero took up the mantle of Grandmaster and with it he intends to ensure that the Lin Kuei maintain their solemn task of defending the Earthrealm from all external threats. But Sub-Zero has made a divisive decision for the future of the clan which doesn’t sit well with his brother, Scorpion. With no threats in centuries, Sub-Zero intends to bring the Lin Kuei out of the shadows and have the Lin Kuei fight to become one of Earthrealm’s leading nations.
Whilst it is these two characters which may be the most surprising, there are a few others which are worth noting as well. Firstly is Liu Kang who after winning the hourglass in Mortal Kombat 11, set about to create a new timeline in which all could find peace. He is now the God of Fire and must use all his experience and wisdom to protect all reality.
Former God of Thunder, Raiden is now a humble farmer who spent his days tending to his fields. But when offered the opportunity to become a champion of Earthrealm, he was hesitant. But now he must trust Liu Kang’s faith in him to protect his family and friends from all threats.
Mileena is another character in Mortal Kombat 1 with a backstory worth noting. She is now the rightful heir to the Outworld throne, having been born mere seconds before her sister Katana. But Mileena is harbouring a dark secret that could see her rule threatened. She has been infected with the deadly Tarkat disease and if this were found out, this could see her having to battle to save her throne.
