Seagal-directed action adventure film On Deadly Ground was a box office failure and received a negative response from the audience and critics alike. Caine, on the other hand, had his reasons for hating the film the actor once shared:
“I had broken one of the cardinal rules of bad movies…If you’re going to do a bad movie, at least do it in a great location. I got desperate to the point that I accepted a picture in Alaska with Steven Seagal, the martial arts expert. The movie was called On Deadly Ground, and the title was to prove apt.”
In another interview, the Little Voice movie star told Rolling Stone:
“It wasn’t one of my dream experiences, to put it nicely. We were in Alaska. He was quite pleasant, but I never saw much of him; he never came out of his motorhome very much. He was one of the top whatever it is – jiu-jitsu, whatever it is they do. I’d never argue with him. I didn’t want him to throw me over.”
