Michael B. Jordan has already made his mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his role as Erik Stevens AKA Killmonger, King T’Challa’s cousin. While his performance was critically acclaimed and fans believe he is one of the best villains in the MCU, the character, unfortunately, met his end in Black Panther. Fans have held on to the hope that the actor will return to the MCU.
Well, the return is allegedly in talks. However, it’s not quite what people hoped for. Michael B. Jordan might be returning to the MCU, but not as the villain, Killmonger. Instead, there is a possibility that he would be sitting on the director’s chair for a future Marvel project.
Michael B. Jordan to Direct an MCU Film?
Reportedly, Michael B. Jordan is currently in conversation to direct a future Marvel film. This would add another project to his career as a director, after Creed III, which is Jordan’s directorial debut. It is common for actors to shift to a directorial position to hold creative control of the movie and Jordan seems to be jumping on the bandwagon.
With fans wanting the Fantastic Four actor to return to the MCU, this might be a piece of good news. This is because, with Jordan back in the folds of MCU, it would be easier for him to reprise his role as Killmonger in future MCU projects.
Even back in 2021, Jordan was developing a Superman project which would feature a black Superman. The project, however, ended up getting sidelined, possibly due to Henry Cavill’s return to the DCU. Since then, there hasn’t been any update about the future of Jordan’s project.
Michael B. Jordan’s Return as Killmonger
While Jordan is reportedly in talks for a directorial role in Marvel, fans still want to see him reprise his villainous role as they just couldn’t get enough of the character in one movie only. Although Jordan did play Killmonger again, it wasn’t enough for the fans as it was just a voiceover in What If…?
It was reported that Jordan is already set to appear in upcoming Marvel projects, however, no one knows when and which ones. Although, the two future Avengers movies might be a solid possibility. The actor himself has shown eagerness to reprise his role as Killmonger.
“I don’t know if it’s a possibility. I mean, at one point or another, being able to be in the Marvel Universe was like a dream come true and if there was an opportunity for me to come back, of course I would. I’m not one of those guys like ‘oh no, I would never.’”
There also have been theories that Jordan might return in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. According to the fan theory, Killmonger gets resurrected and succeeds T’Challa as the next king of Wakanda. However, this theory might be marked as far reach.
Whatever the case, Jordan’s capabilities as a director will be known to the world, after the release of Creed III. Should he direct a future Marvel film, we would all soon know what to expect from him as a director. Who knows, maybe Jordan is as good a director as he is an actor.
Creed III will release in theatres on March 3, 2023.
