Having a net worth of over $425 Million, Mel Gibson has been leading a pretty comfortable and lavish lifestyle. While his younger brother, Donal Gibson has been living from hand-to-mouth for the last couple of years. In an interview, the infamous brother revealed that his misfortune has been the doing of his brother.

Once very close, Donal Gibson was even given a part in Mel Gibson’s Braveheart to encourage him to pursue his Hollywood career. But as Donal Gibson revealed, the two haven’t talked to each other in years. Revealing the reason for their now-broken bond, he said,

“Fame changed him. He started believing in his own publicity. The Mel I knew disappeared. Hollywood ate him up and spat him out. To me, the fame, the money, it all went to his head and created a monster. I hate what he has become.”

Donal Gibson says how back in 2004 when The Passion Of The Christ was released, many condemned the film for its antisemitic portrayal of Jews, and the younger Gibson had to bear the brunt, as his brother went on to earn millions of dollars overnight.

Believing him to be Antisemantic too, all his work dried up and he was left in the shadows of his brother’s triumphant career.

As is the course of many family feuds, the Gibson’s too began over money. As Donal Gibson’s career continued to fail while Mel Gibson‘s continued to soar high, the younger brother found himself asking his older brother for financial help. However, the older dismissed him saying that his problems were his own to figure out.

When asked if it was alright for him, a grown man, to be financially dependent on his older brother, Donal Gibson replied,

“I was getting regular work before Passion Of The Christ but I think people thought Mel was an antisemite so they thought I was too. I believe I was blacklisted. Mel was OK because he had millions pouring into the bank.”

And things continued to get worse when Mel Gibson was arrested, and he abused and harassed police officers. After the videotapes of the older Gibson verbally harassing his then-girlfriend went viral, it was Donal Gibson who had to suffer again.

“Hollywood is a one-industry town and when Mel went nuclear and made those abhorrent remarks about Jews when he was arrested, my work dried up overnight.”

And thus ended the Gibson brother’s brotherhood as well as Donal Gibson’s career.
